I assumed. That’s hidden for me. It’d be nice just to have a conversation about the facts when something of this magnitude happens without it going to hell. Some people can’t help themselves.
I guess for me it depends on whether it’s an active situation or not. Prior to the press conference I agree with keeping a thread open for info (but then it needs to be only info). But after the press conference when it was clear the shooting was no longer occurring, I think politics is fine because it’s just a discussion thread and politics are an inherent part of that. I said it in the other thread, but to me it is like having an Election Day thread, but not wanting any politics in it. It doesn’t work like that.

Its pretty simple if you want to keep the thread on the main page, keep politics out of it. If you want to talk about the politics of it, go to a thread already in the Cave.

Sure. I guess I don’t feel very strongly that a thread about an event that has already occurred, and in which politics is an integral part, should be kept free of politics.

I completely agree that it should have been politics free prior to the press conference because at that point it was still an ongoing event and people were not sure exactly what was happening

Especially when the "who, what, where, why, and how" all are linked to politics to some degree due to the uniqueness of the issue globally.

It’s pretty simple you have a thread on the main page that’s non-political, and if you toxic people that can’t resist talking about politics need to get your pathetic fix in, just making a new thread in the cave.

Maybe there is some discrepancy in how people define "politics" in the discussion forum sense.

Some people would define it as discussing how different policies, laws, and regulations might help (or not help) a particular issue.

Others define it as belaboring their talking points, ignoring nuance, and insulting anyone that disagrees.

Unfortunately, it only takes one of the latter to destroy all of the former. So that's what it always is. That's why so many opt out of the Cave. Just no interest in screaming chimpanzees.

You want to take that somewhere else?

As for all of us - we should drop the political talk now (even the marginal stuff). It was our promise to keep RTT threads open, remember?

First world problems.....Want to take my wife out of the country for our 25th anniversary. We normally go in January to Mexico, Belize, Honduras, etc. Our anniversary is in July and during the rainy season. Don't really want to go back to Hawaii. Other options? Not interested in All Inclusives. Maybe Cabo?

My off the wall suggestion?

Albania. Crazy beautiful, way cheaper than Greece and it's gonna be the hot new thing now that Croatia is "normalized" and getting expensive. Some are calling it the Maldives of Europe.

My non off the wall suggestion would be Portugal. Can visit wine country in the north, Lisbon and it's luxurious suburbs on the west coast (even Estoril where James Bond was "invented"!) and the very warm beaches of the south Algarve region.

How about Slovenia?

We have an employee there, and I may be going there for a business thing. Also Jaz!

This point could also be made without insinuating that people in this thread who have a different take than mine are pathetic and toxic.

Be better.

In the early days those late night conversations between Pants and GTO used to really drive up the post count.
One of the earlier iterations of CF allowed you to see a ranked list of how many posts each user had. I know at least one of the most frequent posters on the list passed away, sadly I can't remember who it was any longer.
