Time for a new friend, clearly this one is a moron. First, he just set his own high water mark for Valentine's day....so he'll be spending the rest of his life or marriage having to do a big thing for Valentine's day. Second, by picking the opening weekend of football, he's set the message that his wife can just steamroll over him for the rest of his life.

All of this sports versus wedding stuff reminded me that 35 years ago today I was huddled in a hotel room in Story City watching the USA beat Sweden for the actual gold (beating the Russkies in the "Miracle on Ice" didn't clinch the gold). We were all at an ISU buddies wedding the day before and were hungover that Sunday morning.

For all you knuckleheads that don't understand the rules of a four-way stop, screw you.

The four way stop at Glenwood and Theodore Wirth Pkwy 1/2 mile from me is total madness. No concept of "in order" after stopping or dealing with right-of-way when arriving at the same time. Mostly it's big SUVs doing rolling stops and than just turning or pulling right in front of someone who arrived two autos before them. Throw in the busy bike and walking path and its Crazydale. Doesn't help that it is backed up in all four directions.

My random thing to do today has been looking at rice cookers. Did you know that there are some that not only cook and warm the rice, but could be a steamer, crockpot, or induction cooking?

I saw one that had six different things you could use it for and was about $256

Emphasis on the last part.

Fiancee wanted a fall wedding. I didn't fight her on it. A part of me wanted a fall wedding myself, as it is far-and-away my favorite season.

But if she wanted a fall wedding, it has to be on a Saturday Iowa State isn't playing. Not just for the sake that Iowa State isn't playing, but if you want a fall wedding in Ames, it's just smart from the travel/hotel, etc. sense to pick a date in which Iowa State isn't playing.

Whoa, that's a lot. We have a rice cooker and use it a ton. We also use it as a steamer quite a bit. We maybe spent $40 on it and we've been using ours for over 15 years.

Although an induction cooker would be pretty cool and would be handy when Z gets a little taller and more curious.

Time for a roundabout!

You think 4 way stops are bad....imagine the morons navigating that little trickeroo...Honestly, in a perfect world, I love them, because it just keeps flowing...unfortunately, the morons in this world are the reason we can't have nice things.

I've seen some really effective ones, but there are some insanely dumb roundabouts here in KC. One in particular is near my house.

The north-south road is the main road. There are good sized housing developments on each side of the intersection. Beforehand, there was a left turn lane and I rarely saw a backup. There is now a roundabout there and the stop signs are still there coming out of the housing developments. Much slower.

They essentially are making someone that needs to turn left into their housing development go 3/4 of the way around a circle and make everyone else guess where they are going to turn. It is a terrible design.

They just re-did the new route I'll take home when we move and added three roundabouts to it, all one after the other. Milk tanker tipped over in one of them a couple weeks ago.

I like roundabouts in small doses, but this drive home may make me dizzy and I just have to go straight through all three. Though it's still probably better than having to try and cross the two-lane that used to be there. You'd wait for days trying to get across.
