Seeing the convo on cookies, I was pondering starting a Holiday Recipes thread. Although, I have a feeling a) the females would dominate, and b) that many males on this site would go to their female significant others and say "Bake this!" (2015 is excluded from this assumption, as is possibly Double Ought)
I was going to make that adjustment if no one else did. To take it a step further, he is doing a project with him now, but he will be learning from the foreign grad student in college so he better get used to making the effort to understand.

I have no idea what that means, so I approve of bananas.
My ex was the team leader for grad students teaching undergrad labs when he was working on his PhD. He received a number of complaints from student surveys about one of the Asian TA's not speaking English. Just one problem...the TA in question was third generation Chinese-American, from Chicago. He definitely had an accent, but it was more Chicago than Chinese.
I work with a wide variety of international faculty and grad students. Some are easier to understand than others, but over the years I've developed a pretty decent ear for accents. As far as the attitude some 'Murcans display toward "dumb foreigners that can't speak English", well, get back to me when you're bi-lingual (most of us are not, unless we are recent immigrants).
Maybe not that guy, but another guy who speaks with an accent. The point is you need to learn to work to understand because the number and percentage of people in the US who speak English as a second language is going up not down. If you go to Iowa State you will have TAs if not professors who have heavy accents and it is on you to work to understand. I had a prof with a heavy Dravidian accent. I found that I learned more from him because I couldn't get away with only half listening - I really had to concentrate hard - which resulted in my learning so much more from him.

As much as I love my nephews and nieces, I think they are best experienced in small doses. My 4 year old nephew asked me more questions and said more to me in the first 45 minutes I was awake last wednesday then my other sisters 3 kids (7, 4, and 18mths) have said to me in there entire life. I love the kid, but at 7:30 in the morning I'm not sure I can name the animal I'm tenth most excited to see at the zoo that day when we go.

May do a chocolate /peppermint kiss version of peanut butter blossoms and maybe sugar cookies. It is for a wonderful event here in town called the Pass Along Party. Affiliated with Food at First/Methodist Church my friend collects gently used toys and household good all year from friends and neighbors. Then on Saturday families in need can "shop" for free. Groups volunteer to help with wrapping, this year Skunk River Bikes fixed up all bikes that were donated for free, UBS donated 500 reusable shopping bag, Black Market donates pizza for set up Friday night, volunteers are donating cookies. It is a great way to clean out overflowing toy closets and give to families who may not otherwise have Christmas. Many of the items donated are brand new.
Oh, I'm definitely the cook in the house, but if it's cookie recipes, I won't be much help. Other than holiday pie for tradition sake, I'm more of a salty/savory fella. Oh, and pork fat.
I'm seriously thinking about making that top 25 dumb threads thing a reality. Would that be something that would get me banned?
