Had a phone interview. Never quite sure what to ask when they say "Do you have anything to ask us?" Stuck with asking about the timeline.

I used to ask what they most liked about working at X company or what they thought would be the qualities of an ideal candidate. That last one sounds kinda like "tell me I'm so perfect for this!" but really if they start naming off attributes that you don't have or have but don't love to use.......can be a sign of it not being a great fit.

Not an interview expert, but I would sometimes ask what would make a candidate successful in the position.

I accidentally hit a home run one time when I was interviewing for a co-op position. With the co-ops, they didn't interview with the hiring manager, they interviewed with the Sr. Managers and Directors of the departments. Sitting there with these big wheels, I just asked "Hey, so, I'm just starting off on this path, you are well established and successful, so let me pick your brain...what choices/skills/attributes do you think most led to your success?" I was honestly just thinking of the opportunity to learn, but later on, by referring to their success and asking for their advice, I learned that I flattered the **** out of them, and it probably got me the job and helped me keep my job in a downsizing situation later on.

From the interviews I've conducted, I always thought "What do you enjoy most about the company?" was a decent question to ask if prompted. You may get a canned response (i.e. "I like the family atmosphere" or "I like that it challenges me") but if you can get the interviewer to talk openly, it could open the door so you can gauge their values. Then use that info to tweak an answer to suit what they may be looking for.

I had the weirdest experience at the gym today. I go to a bare-bones place and have for about 5 years. It is on it's 3rd owner/name since I joined. The first place had regular hours, etc. The second owner turned it into a 24 hour place. So, basically, since it is bare-boned and 24 hours, I very rarely see any of the workers in there. In all honesty, I recognize some of them.

So the third owner/name is making quite a few changes. I had to go pick up my new card today. I get there and the person at the desk knows my name--first and last. Now it wouldn't have surprised me if she recognized me, but I'm shocked that she had ANY idea who I was.

The good news is that I figured that my rate would be going up---I was locked into a crazy low rate from 5 years ago. It's going up, but not by much. The other good news is that I am at least at the gym enough so that they know who I am.

Or the girl behind the desk wants the D
