CG, so what is the scoop on # black lives matter Madison version? All I've seen is 30 sec clips that give no detail.

I live near Madison. Basically cops get call about a possibly battery. Cop goes to apartment building, goes to apartment in question, hears disturbance, forces way inside (legal at that point), gets hit by surprise in the head by the deceased, continues attacking him, cop defends himself. Of course, no one wants to listen to and accept the facts. Guy was convicted of Armed Robbery in December and served no time, but "has never been a violent person" according to his mother.

So pretty much the same thing that happened in Ferguson?

CG, I hope your new house has riot insurance!

Oh, no, Pants...her spreadsheet had function to account for the probability of rioting.

Probably has also accounted for any variety of the ten plagues of Egypt.

Had a dream that someone from CF called me in the middle of the night to offer me a mod position. Then, they got ticked because I wasn't jumping up and down happy about it. Dude. You had just woke me up.

Don't know who called me in the dream. Just knew it was a male that was Not CW.

So.......exactly like Ferguson then?

they were protesting within 12 hours of it happening saying what a kind, good kid he was while ignoring that he was still on probation for armed robbery last year. My guess is that he was high on something because he had been running in traffic and assaulted two people before the disturbance inside.

Bunch of high school kids staged a walkout yesterday which from the tv clips looked like a bunch of kids excited for a reason to play hookey. I will say I thought that was ridiculous.

The protests have been very calm so far and I think they will continue to be. It's being investigated by an outside party and not the police department itself, which is good.

Supporting SavaV effort to change the subject before =CAVE calculates the end of random III.

Although I do have to confess my own home worksheet has the =ZOMBIE function. Also =RABBIT, =DEER, =ALIEN, etc.

Glad to see the "protests" are calm, especially with 40,000 plus students potentially in the mix.

Does Madison's police have a history of racially discriminating? That seems like a big difference.

I did something out of my comfort zone last night. Z was in bed and was acting like she'd go to sleep peacefully and I had stuff in the washer. So, I decided to see if I could run a mile before the sun had completely set.

Thanks to the coughing stuff from Z, I couldn't run a lot, but I ended up with a 13min mile. Got home in time to help dad with crying Z.

He had to take care of an epic leaky diaper and had everything cleaned up so I didn't need to do anything except to normally wash the affected clothes.

leaky meaning huge blowout.

there are definitely issues with the city as a whole (poor graduation rate, not providing the support needed to low-income housing areas) but I don't think there is the blatant problems with the police department that there are with Ferguson as far as the excessive arrests, fines, and such. Racial disparity on the economic side is something known and discussed. Not solved, but aware of and working on.
It sounds like the family and the police department are communicating well so far. They were upset that they couldn't see the body yet but sounded like they felt they were being provided as much information as was reasonable. The police chief actually refused to comment about the deceased's criminal history when asked. It seems like he is trying to handle things very carefully and correctly. I don't know the make-up of Ferguson's police force, but the chief mentioned last night that they are 20% minority and 30% women which seems fairly representative of the local population (assuming that women are less likely to be on the force anyway).
