Random Thoughts XI (Eleven Pipers Piping)

Pretty tired from that game. Teenagers got the AP homework ahead of time, so that was all good. But they had some dumb little last minute assignments in Spanish III and IV they did in the car on the way, some data draining Government assignment while tailgating, a Physics problem set during tailgating, and some Lord of the Flies reaction piece during tailgating. But the light crowd meant we got home earlier than I thought we would cause pretty easy to get out the back entrance of Vet Med after the game and they slept in the car.

Poor dog is pretty beat though. He doesn't sleep when we are gone and he's still sacked out on the couch this morning. I need to vacuum but I hate to wake him (and I hate to vacuum). I snuggled with him a while when we got home last night. Dog has kidneys of steel, was alone 10 hours yesterday.

All the ******** about attendance, I thought the student section did pretty well considering my son and surely others had several sort of midterms this week in classes that give two of those.

I forgot how entitled Texa$ fans are, two years ago they were pretty subdued. They were chanting something as they left the stadium last night that ended with OU sucks, and I thought, right there is "little brother."

Other game observations:

1. Cass Prohm accepting Monte's Male Athlete of the Year Award was absolutely adorable.

2. Fireworks were nice.

3. The Varsity Marching Band was awesome. I laughed so much when they brought the ladder "smokestack" out during that crappy Titanic song with the twirler playing the chick and Cy as whoever Leo's character was. I've never seen the movie, but seen that image a million times. Husband's like, poor Cy, he's just gonna be a frozen white face in the water.

4. Big Vic Alexander and Angie Welle should procreate giant awesome Cyclone basketball players with a sweet soft touch.

Forgot about Cass! We had to explain who he was to a bunch of people around us. Then they were all like "but why?" and I told them they needed to follow Monte's social media stream.

...and we were cracking up at the Titanic thing....but I didn't see Cy & the twirler (we were lower deck in the corner, so kind of a flat view of the field). That would have made it even better!

Not a rag on the band, although maybe it is. The walking around and playing in the stands while the game was going on was starting to irritate me. I like the band and want them there. Just don't want a tuba blasting in my ear while the play is going on. When play starts, stop. As soon as the play ends, feel free to crank it back up.

great, I'm good and sick today. Kickball story at some point maybe but there weren't a lot of exciting moments.

Sick and didn't sleep at all last night. This is fun.

You really need to let us experts decide if there were or were not a lot of exciting moments. A lot of us have children, miss our younger days at certain times and live vicariously through your kickball posts. Not me, of course, as my life is super exciting and fulfilling 110% of the time.

We had 2 extra tickets and I couldn't talk hubby into going. I had to run oldest to practice in DSM. Started the day at 5am for 6am volleyball, came home and did homework, more homework in the ride down, tried to do homework on the ride home, finished up a few things befor heading to bed. Homecoming this weekend so I'm sure the teachers will pile on the homework. Stay after school for parade, march, then the fine arts booster club feeding the band kids, then the football game. Bus leaves 7:30 Sat morning for volleyball tournament, then home to get ready for the dance.

My nephew plays in the band and I had asked my sister what the theme was. She thought maybe movies since he mentioned his location on the Titanic. Guess it was a 90's tribute.

We decided the new "logo" was either a) the worst tornado clip art they could find or b) the winner of a 4th grade graphic design contest.

Yep, it was 90's. They played the theme from Friends and spelled out the names of all the characters. Also some "Feels Like Teen Spirit" for the Nirvana fans. Titanic was best. I was all like "not that awful Celine crapola," but they made the boat, had billowing smoke, and the smokestack scene was just hilarious.

Our school is at least good about not piling on homework during Homecoming, but they take some of their AP classes online so no break from those. We drove through Huxley on way up to avoid the 30 interchange and it was Ballard's Homecoming, so I can't imagine that coupled with Gilbert helped the attendance any.

I was surprised at how many came back in at half time...but 4th quarter it started to drain around us, and that last offensive (non) drive, nearly everyone walked but a few diehards & the Longhorns around us. Bad part about that is when you have no buffer between you & the scattered Longhorns, you hear them more.

I forgot how awful Texa$ fans can be. They kind of remind me of Nebraska fans when I was a student. Game two years ago was glorious. After last night, they make me root for Oklahoma against them.

I told PapaLew that if my sister called after the game I would hang up on her. She's a Longhorn, BIL is an Aggie. They are retired, moved from Austin back to College Station (where he grew up). She used to call immediately after every FB & MBB game (when UT beat us). When Rhoads finally beat them in Austin I waited for the call...and (surprise!) it never came. We joined the crowd that gathered to meet the team when they got back; I had Rhoads autograph my "BBQ Texas" t shirt. Debated giving it to her for Christmas, but decided I was above that (just barely). Besides, it would have just ended up in the garbage. So it's on display in our game room.
That winter, we lost to UT in Austin in basketball. Like clockwork, the phone call came...and I regretted NOT sending the shirt.

I'm a little afraid she was awake all night because little CG was kicking her uterus all night. If so, that means no Rum Brooklyn and no cold medication. However, getting a bad cold during pregnancy is rare so I guess I can worry a little less.

Good points. I think Rum & Codeine Brooklyn is probably safe for now.

This just a peach. Wife sends me a text of an email she got from son's HS teacher. Because of his surgery, PT and everything he has been working to catch up work. He had a little here and there left to turn in and wrapped it almost all up before midterm grades Wednesday so he wouldn't have grade deficiencies. The email explains that this teacher was just going through grades and saw that our son is failing on his midterm, but it's ok because she just couldn't get his makeup grades put in in time and now that they are (1 1/2 days late) he's getting an A.

That's freaking nice. Way to make my kid ineligible for 1-2 weeks when he gets back due to not getting around to it seeing how this school carries this stuff forward until your next eligible situation.

They did move our parade and coronation so it didn't conflict--it is always Thursday night. And the 9th grade volleyball coach must go to the games/tailgate because they had practice at 6am yesterday. JV/V practiced after school, probably done around 5pm. The head coach is a Hawkeye grad.
