This is when you know you are getting older......you start actually paying attention to obit notices in the paper. I lost my dad 12 years ago, and Mom is now about to turn 87 - but she is going strong, and showing no signs of slipping. So that's a good thing. :D

What's going on in there? Should I even bother? I assume it's a bunch of people saying "brick/mortar is dead" on repeat, as if that's a good thing.

Yes and no. It has devolved into a couple of protesters foretelling the demise of urban areas because people won't live in city centers and city's will go bankrupt because of urban sprawl.

I can't think of any place I'd like to live LESS than a city center, unless it's a ticky-tack suburb. Took me nearly 30 years to get back to where I really wanted to be, and I'm "firmly entrenched". :D

I keep flipping back and forth between a nice town like Davenport, with really cheap housing, versus a city neighborhood, with great transportation. I need to make a decision because once DD graduates in 2021, I'm no longer tied to this town, and I want to GTFO of Illinois.

I'm thinking Des Moines (I like what I've been reading about the redevelopment, and I think a single gal could have fun playing cougar with all the hipsters) or maybe even Ames (because I want to be able to go to games whenever I feel like it).

Then there's the left field choices, like moving down south to get warm (Texas, maybe?) or even living abroad for a few years.

I can't make up my mind.

I think you handle crowds and the party circuit better than I do. Just a hunch! :)

What some people don't want to admit is that Des Moines is a fairly desirable place to live. That is where we wanted to be when it was time to leave Wichita but it didn't work out. There is a lot to do and has many great places to live around the area.

Illinois is about to expire. Literally. You'd be way better off leaving there, for sure.

The vixen and I have often talked about moving to Ames - we both lived there, me at ISU and she worked for a radio station there. It's big enough to contain everything we want in a town, and close enough to Des Moines for the symphony, events at the Civic Center, etc.
