Sentencing is today in Nevada for the driver that was texting and hit head on another vehicle killing two teen sisters and badly injuring a third.

http://www.thegazette.com/subject/n...texting-while-driving-fatal-accident-20180418

While the human being in me wants revenge, and payback for the loss of two lives, the humanist in me realizes that 1) No amount of penalty will bring back those 2 girls and 2) This person hopefully has paid a huge price by knowing he killed 2 people.

What needs to happen is first for this guy to never, ever EVER text while driving again, and for everyone else to learn a very difficult lesson of why this **** is so dangerous.

A couple weekends back, I was running on the trails in a nearby forest preserve, and I saw a couple of people out riding these types of bikes. They are visually striking, and I keep coming back to this encounter... what is the deal with these? They're called fat bikes? Are they specifically for trails?

I'm thinking about adding cycling to my workouts for some cross-training, and I need a bike of my own. I'm wondering if a fat bike is what I need?

I just got a bike (not a fat one) and am going to ride 2-3 mornings a week. Total novice when it comes to riding for exercise—want to get more out of it than just a leisurely ride.

First day with all 6 of us home. Went to take the oldest to get her school permit and DOT is closed Mondays. Grr. Also, the youngest just found out when you say, “I’m bored” you get to do a chore. She is currently emptying my dishwasher.

I've found I've needed to do it a couple different ways pending the pics. I've done it gr8s way also.
You can always use CTRL+V to paste as well. I always CTRL+C for copy and CTRL+X for cut as well. I'm not big into control key functions but I use those three all of the time.

It just dawned on me that you are probably posting from mobile, hence why you don't use the shortcuts.

We have this rule as well. They still sometimes forget and we get some pretty sweet housework out of them.

By far the best response to "I'm bored." lol, they find out what their friends are doing pretty quickly after that.

I think the biking will be rewarding. I borrowed my ex's bike for a ride on Friday evening, and (according to Stava) ended up riding for 1.5 hours and going 17 miles. Definitely was a nice change of pace from pounding the pavement running all the time. I think I enjoyed it so much because you can bike so much farther than you can run-- I'm tired of seeing the same landmarks every morning during my run.

Got about 2 hrs of single track time in on the fat bike today. Another hour of just road riding. We'll see how my legs and bum feel, maybe break out the road bike tomorrow night.
I broke down and bought a cheapy fat tire bike the other day. My mountain bike is really old and Mrs. Velo suggested it so I jumped. I did splurge on a personalized saddle, though. ;)

Yet today thousands upon thousands will insist that they can text and drive perfectly safely.

Once we are on our summer schedule I try to go out and walk before 7am. Now I’d like to alternate walking and biking. It is only about 45min-1hr timeframe but still better than nothing.

Would reeealy like to get this school permit. Three mornings she has lifting then some days practice right after lifting. Lifting is at the HS practice at the MS (a few blocks away, but far enough that she needs a ride from one place to the next to make it to practice on time). Can keep her equipment in the car. Tomorrow I will have to take her up at 7 and she will have to have her equipment in the weight room and catch a ride to practice.

Is there such a thing as a cheapy fat tire bike? I have a friend that opened a bike shop in Fremont. The 4 times I have stopped by to say hi he has sold one of those in the short time I was there. About $1,000 a pop. With that massive Costco chicken plant going in and the flood of workers that will flock there I think he will end up selling a lot of bikes.

The teenage daughter couldn't find her phone this weekend, when she did find my iPhone, it was under the 22 pound cat. Later in the weekend, she lost a book. It was under the 22 pound cat.
Tab is 18 lbs of black house panther, with a tiny bit of white on throat and belly. He's literally built like a brick house, and when that cat lands on your lap, you KNOW he's there.

22 lbs? Never had one that big. You have a Maine Coon or something? ;)

Hmmmm....yeah, see I've tried that, and when I right click to "paste" the paste is not highlighted, so it's not an option. I think @ImJustKCClone told me to use the little pic icon next to the smilies icon, but I can't remember the steps. Sometimes I'm just dense.
That's if you have the URL (you found a pic on the web), and the one next to it is for videos.

Copy/paste often works for web pictures. For pics from my hard drive, I use the "upload a file" option that Gr8 showed you.

The permit is awesome! We can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. DD just turned 15 in March, and she's been driving to everything since then. Next March she'll be able to drive without us in the car, and I already trust that she'll be a good driver. She's going somewhere (practice, lifting, pitching lessons or hitting lessons) pretty much every night of the week. Not having to drive her to each of those things is going to free up so much of my time.

The big softball tournaments are coming up this month (KC, 7.5 hours and Greeley CO, 14 hours) and she's going to behind the wheel a lot during those drives.

@BoxsterCy, can we get a pic of your new furniture? Cherry is so beautiful......we have a cabinet manufacturer that is doing some new types of stain and glaze combinations on cherry, and they look awesome.

BTW - can somebody please tell me how to post a picture from my computer on here? For some reason, I can't manage it........technologically challenged, I guess.......

Here it is, BDI model they discontinued a few years ago (explains my roadtrip to Racine where I found one). It's got a rotating base so you can swivel it. I have some cherry stain Stressless furniture and some cherry cabinet Polk Audio speakers (tower L/R, base and center) so this is going to be perfect for the 60" TV to sit on.

My TV's bigger but it will look like this.

We have to force ours to drive, but I am about ready to just toss her out of the nest with her school permit. She can only go to/from school. Our route is county road, turn right onto a county road, turn left on a county road and straight into the HS parking lot pretty much. To get to the softball field you do have to go around the town round about. ;) Approximately 3mi to school.

I was out mowing yesterday. I was turning around out by the curb and looked up to see a car bearing down on me in the parking lane. The driver was of course looking at something interesting in her lap. She looked up in time to swerve and avoid hitting one of the few cars parked on our street but over steered and just about hit an oncoming car.

People are so stupid.

You said the secret word in your post.
quote-say-the-secret-word-and-win-a-hundred-dollars-groucho-marx-308116.jpg

I didn't need anything special. I really have only ever spent real money for a road bike (thank God real money for a road bike 15+ years ago was a lot different than real money for one today) so when these bikes came around the second time at Costco I jumped. Mrs. Velo said she just about bought one for me the last time they were there without me even seeing it first.
