Last class Wednesday night! It was mostly about boobs so not much of interest.
They talked about fore vs. hind milk and one of the notes mentioned electrolytes. So DH is like, foremilk has what babies crave, it's got electrolytes! That's from something I'm guessing?
They showed many videos of babies eating and one new mom had a helpful lactation consultant. The consultant spoke and was very clearly Australian. I'm not sure if that helped the process but now I kinda want an Australian helper person too, she seemed very friendly.
Not gonna lie, I was way more knowledgeable than the average person in this class just due to my background so a lot of the stuff was routine to me. At some point DH was like how do you know X? And I'm like cause I know how boobs work! You milk them! He's like "I have boobs, can you milk me?" I
do know what that's from.
Talking about burping babies and nurse person is like oh and babies fart. You'll be surprised at what they are capable of. Remembering the sounds nieces made, I won't say I don't look forward to baby farts. I predict they will be entertaining.
They made us practice different positions for holding the baby and that was awkward AF. Again, this thing staring up at you. Judging you.
Overall though, I didn't love the class. It was a bit too heavy-handed on the "feed your baby this way or they grow up fat, sick, and stupid" stuff. Like, **** happens and let's not put in things like "don't keep any formula around the house so you aren't tempted to use it" because really? Like women need more mom guilt. Also, it's nice that you'd like women to directly nurse for longer than three months. Telling us to try and extend our maternity leave if possible to do so........that's just not a reasonable suggestion.
Next week we're doing our tour and I have like a million questions so I think they're going to hate me.
