Hospital tour stuff!

So I drove since I picked up DH. Going a different route because of rush hour traffic, we get close and I say let me know where I'm turning cause I'm not sure. He's like "at the normal hospital turn" A street name would be good here, no? Anyway, I confirm it's the one we're coming up to and then have to get over decently quickly but not like "you're a jackass" quick. I had more than enough room but the Dodge Charger behind me was clearly trying to prevent me from getting over and sped up to try and block me out. Side note, why are Dodge Charger drivers all ********? I've noticed this. It's like truck nutz, I just know you're going to be an ass.

Anywho, so I'm getting over anyway cause I need to turn, but I can't immediately cut in because there's a girl on a bike in the lane ahead of me we're coming up on and I'm trying to not bump draft her. I don't know if Charger ass didn't see or didn't care that she was there. Mind this is all at like 15mph so it's not like any of us were speeding anywhere. Anywhoodles, I finish getting over and Charger ass honks at me. Bike girl realizes I got honked at because I was waiting for her and mouths "sorry" at me. I give her the "it's fine" wave and give a one-finger wave in my rearview. Suck it, Charger ass.

Tour time. You probably won't be surprised to hear that I had three pages of questions (it was double spaced to give me room to write answers!) None of the other people even had a pen out. Most of my questions did get answered throughout the tour but I did ask like 4 things. I quit after that cause I was the only one asking questions and I felt weird. They have soaking tubs in the labor rooms and the guide says that while support persons/partners are allowed in the tub, they are required to wear clothes. The mom's can be naked though. I meant to ask DH if he felt discriminated against. Though I can't blame the staff. Pregnant lady ass? Fine. Naked hairy man ass? Oh hell no.

We go through the labor area and you can very clearly hear a woman in labor and it does not sound like she's having a fun time. At this point I have decided that I do not wish to continue with this having to go into labor thing because it seems unpleasant. My face must have relayed my feelings because I look up to catch the eye of random future dad on the tour and his face was definitely "yep, I heard that too, damn I'm glad I have a penis."

Then we went by a snack area and this dad goes in and actually gets a cup of coffee from the coffee machine. Said it was good.

While they are telling us about the food ordering and options, the lady says oh and don't forget to order your sparkling cider to celebrate your new arrival. **** that, where is the champagne?!

Also, though I already sort of knew this, one of my questions in postpartum is how often the nurses come bug you. Every HOUR she said. Oy. Also, they are "baby-friendly" (as opposed to what, baby hostile????) which means the baby stays in your room the whole time. So even if you wanted to be like hey let them go to the nursery for a couple hours so you can get a touch of rest, that won't happen because they don't have a nursery. I'm sure it will be fine. I can do this. But for real, what goes on at a baby-hostile hospital? Do they make the babies work for their board??
No nursery? That sounds mom-hostile.

oh and I had to call to start my FMLA claim a few weeks ago and I get a guy. He's like what's your due date.

Are you planning to work until that day?
"Going to try"
Will you be working a full day or partial day on your due date?
"............going to try and work a full day?"

It took a lot of restraint on my end to be not be like hey numbnuts, do you know how babies work? Or maybe he and the baby have chatted and he knew when baby planned to arrive. Had a good laugh about it with coworkers. Apparently some of them got asked some fairly ridiculous things when calling in as well.

Ugh, this heat though...

Arrived in KC yesterday for DD's softball tournament. Seven game minimum (more if they do well in bracket play) in 95+ degree weather. Starting with three games tomorrow. And DD had a pre-tournament camp today, so she's already had eight hours in the sun before a game has been played. She pitched one inning (went 1-2-3) and hit into two 6-3 groundouts, against other campers in a game, after all the instruction and evaluation sessions were done.

Good thing is Jamie Trachsel was there watching, and so was one of the ISU assistants. DD has ISU and Minnesota 1-2 on her wish list. She wants to study genetics.

Are you sure you don’t want to move to north Ames now? ;) You could establish residency and then only have to worry about in state tuition. Although softball-wise, MN would have the advantage. But we could really use a pitcher right now . . .

Good update CG. Nurseries are somewhat becoming a thing of the past. That being said at both hospitals we had kids at if you asked the nurses were more than happy to just take it down to the nurses station. I think this last one did still have a nursery now that I think about it.

One thing we really liked about the hospital we used in Wichita is they had divided the floor up by labor and delivery, NICU and post partum. So once they get you all sewed up you would be moved to a different room with a queen size bed. As the father I appreciated that much more than the couch thing.

That does sound a little ridiculous, but for a woman with a scheduled C-section they are more reasonable questions.

One of my questions I ended up not asking was if the nurses would take the baby for a couple hours. Tour lady was very much emphasizing the "family friendly" and "baby stays with you at all times" so I thought I'd look like a bad mom if I'm like yeah but if I want to sleep the second night, will someone else watch the baby for a bit. I'll probably ask my OB.
They do a similar thing for ours - one floor for delivery, C-section and recovery down the hall, NICU on a different floor, and two postpartum floors. Unfortunately for DH, it's a sleeper sofa. But I guess IDK what size it folds out to. The delivery rooms are nice and big but the postpartum are a good bit smaller.

I want to say he did ask about that first as well - if it was a scheduled delivery at this point. Cause yeah, it'd make more sense if you have a date set in stone.

Coworker's water broke at work. I'm very tempted to ask her if she called it in as a half day, lol. Think it was like 3pm though so I hope she called that a full day.

I get to be home and play with Z while Erik defends. (Should be about done!)

So doing laundry and my dryer knob is cracked! It can't grip the metal to turn it. Currently using pliers to turn it.

Any better ideas?

Hypothetical question: If @stormchaser2014 gets married and his wife has a scheduled delivery, would the baby come on time?

From last child 11 years s ago and a different hospital, they will put the baby in the nursery for you to sleep and such.

Figured you’d ask about when you can start drinking. Remember you need to plan that out because you gotta pump (or have a way to collect) so the kid doesn’t get drunk from you. Also, some moms just can’t nurse and formula is required, don’t feel bad if that happens, just a part of life.
