I'm so out of the loop I did not know about the "NET rankings" to be used to help with NCAA field. These are through Jan 5 (does not yet include Sunday's games), l and have ISU jump from #30->#14:

"Explainer":

The NCAA Evaluation Tool, or NET, will be the new barometer for the committee, and it will include game results, strength of schedule, game location, scoring margin (capping at 10 points per game), and net offensive and defensive efficiency.

The committee did consider using the game date, an uncapped scoring margin, distance traveled and days of rest before a game but decided against using these in the equation.
... ...
Few said he wanted to see a legitimate reward for going on the road, something that had been done with the quad system last season where there was more of an emphasis on road wins than home wins. He was pleased to see the importance put on the analytics of offensive and defensive efficiency.

You could say the same thing about sports in general. At the end of the day, isn't being a fan all about bragging rights? There is no material value to your team winning (unless you are gambling). It's all a mental reward, just like seeing your team be ranked.

Every single recruit gets all of these tweets retweeted at them. Every single recruit gets text messages letting them know the school that is recruiting them is ranked.

Ranked teams are guaranteed to be on espn’s front page when they play

That matters to kids. They’re the ones that come here and continue the tradition.

More important than fans beating their chests.

I’ve seen three new ballots this morning and they have us at 19, 20 and 22. I’m sticking with my prediction of 21.

I’ve seen a couple at 18 and another at 24. The dude with us the 24 had TTU at 12 and Iowa at like 20.

Oh Great........there goes our strength of schedule.........
According to ESPN, ISU now has to play in the Big 10......
"Iowa State (12-2, 2-0 Big Ten)"

This makes me smile:
"Dropped from rankings: Wisconsin 22, Nebraska 24, Iowa 25"

AP-
Big12---50% Ranked
Big10---29% Ranked

Getting wins against Baylor and K-state this week would give our rank a bit of seasoning before tough games @ TTU, @ KU, and @ Ole Miss.

Will we break back into the AP top 25 tomorrow?

I'm uncertain. Tech was impressive win, that will help, but ISU has to climb over a few teams. Indiana obviously will drop out, Louisville was 26th last week and won twice (but not good opponents). Wisconsin was one slot ahead and beat Michigan. So, hard to tell. It wouldn't surprise me either way.
