Re: Rashad Vaughn

Rashad,
You will not find a stronger or more loved fan base than us here at Iowa State. We've been after you since you left the 8th grade, and will continue to follow you through your NBA career. As I'm sure you are quickly finding out from visit to visit, you will not find a finer coach(s), teammates, fans, and all around support as you will get from the Cyclone Nation. Some recruits are going for the traditional Big schools, and as you can see, it doesn't always work out for them. The top talent in the nation does not Always go East. You can accomplish what you are after from nearly any school in the country. But like I said, you won't find a better place than ISU and coach Fred Hoiberg to "sling-shot" you to the NBA. With the talent Fred has coming in next year, we should be a final four team... with you on board? ...well, that's just the candle in the cake! PLEASE, let us always welcome you here to Iowa State with open arms. Have a safe New Year, and remember us come decision time.

Is this for serious?

Re: Rashad Vaughn

He's coming to Iowa State.

I agree. The only scenario that I could see going down where he wouldn't is if Coach Hoiberg jumped ship to the NBA after this season which I hope he doesn't do. Maybe that is why Rashad is keeping his options open until spring.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

  • Dear Rashad,
  • I feel like I can call you Rashad because you and me are so much alike. I would love to meet you some day. It would be great to have a lay-up drill. I know I can't run as fast as you, but I think you would be impressed with my speed. I love your hair. You run fast. Do you have a good relationship with your father? Me neither. These are all things we can talk about and more. I know you have not been getting my letters because I know you would write back if you did, and I hope you write back this time and we get to be good friends. I am sure our relationship would be a real Slam Dunk.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Dear Rashad:

You know, in the ten years that I coached, I never met anybody who wanted to win as badly as I did. I'd do anything I had to do to increase my advantage. Anybody who tried to block the pursuit of that advantage, I'd just push 'em out of the way. Didn't matter who they were, or what they were doing. But that was then. You have special talent, a gift. Not the school's, not the townspeople, not the team's, not Pete Kaffey's, not mine. It's yours, to do with what you choose. Because that's what I believe, I can tell you this: I don't care if you play on the team or not.

Dear Rashad,

If you're holding this letter you already know. The house has been boarded up. The doors. The windows. Everything. We're at the Comfort Inn. Room 112. I love you.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Dear Rashad,

We don't know who you are, we don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, we can tell you we don't have money, our boosters do. But what we do have are a very particular set of skills; skills we have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make us a nightmare for people like you, like blinding you with our gingerness. If you sign with Kansas, Kentucky, UNC, or UNLV, that'll be the end of it. We will not look for you, we will not pursue you. But if you don't, we will look for you, we will find you, and we will throw our depth at you, and you will get so tired and never beat us.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Dear Rashad,

The Hilton is ready if you are. You can choose SEC ball or the B12 or the ACC or MouseWC ball.

If you want to replicate the pros, cross off the last conference.

The ACC is fine, but Roy is getting long in the tooth. He has had some growing pains with his misfits this year against UT and Belmont.

You all know Calipari recruits the world's finest just to lose to Baylor and UNC.

Bill Self does it in style like drawing technicals in the first half but he lost to Colorado and Villanova.

We have a team that can beat KU, Baylor, and UT already. If you choose us, it will be even better.

No offense, but pointing out individual losses these coaches have had (minus UNLV) while all winning national titles in the last ten years is idiotic. I hope Vaughn doesn't see UNC lose to Belmont and that's his deciding factor to not go there. All those coaches have things a player might like just like what Hoiberg might. It's his life and his decision and even though I'll be bummed if he doesn't chose Iowa state ill hardly blame him for making what decision seems best for him

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Ya ya blah blah.....cute letter....that might recruit an 8 year old girl.

ok back to movie themed letters.....

Dear rashad, If you're reading this, you've gotten out. And if you've come this far, maybe you're willing to come a little further. You remember the name of the town, don't you? I could use a good man to help me get my project on wheels. I'll keep an eye out for you and the chessboard ready. Remember, Rashad. Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. I will be hoping that this letter finds you, and finds you well. Your friend, Andy...errr....Fred.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Rashad,
Great moments are born from great opportunity.
And that's what you have here this year
That's what you've earned here this year
One season
If we played it ten times, they might win nine.
But not this year. Not here
This year, we shoot with 'em
Tonight, we stay with 'em, and we shut them down because we can!
Tonight, we are the greatest basketball team in the world.
You were born to be a basketball player
And you were meant to be here this year
This is your time.
Their time -- is done. It's over.
I'm sick and tired of hearin' about what a great basketball team the Jayhawks have.
Screw 'em!
This is your time!!
Now go out there and take it
