Re: Vaughn pushes back announcement to Tuesday

Besides the fact he's just an 18 yr. old kid, why did he say he was announcing this weekend in the first place when he surely knew he had these two games???? Confusing...but then so has his whole recruitment if you ask me.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

Focus on his games? He plays for a school of 11 students... who cares? By the way, is going to Findlay like being homeschooled without parents? I am trying to put a picture to a day in the life of a Findlay Prep student.
I wonder what the Senior Prom is like.

This thread is like a train wreck. I convince myself I'm not going to open it and just want to see what else is up. But some how I always end up back here. I can't look away... and now I'm contributing...

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

First RV just stated he was going to announce this weekend, then the UNLV message board said it would be Saturday at 8:30 (which appearently became fact some how in this tread) and now he has officially set a date 2 days after he generically said he would decided. Let's not read too much into it. Let him get his games in and set up his announcement presser. I know Vaughn fatigue is setting in but, let's just let the process play out.

The plus side of the timeing, ISU has two more games before then (one on ESPNU) to showcase and gives Fred some more time to contact RV.

The Negative, having this thread spiral more out of control for 3 more days, of course.
(I am actually becoming concerned it may become self aware by then.)

Hey, at least CW is getting some more page visits!

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

I think the meltdown started when he announced he was deciding on Saturday. Nobody has enough energy to sustain the meltdown for a full week though.
CF has had plenty of meltdowns last longer than a week. The Greg McDermott era comes to mind.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

Vaughn has two games this weekend, UNLV and ISU play on Saturday. Saturday just doesn't make any sense. It sucks to have to wait longer, but it's perfectly reasonable.
All college basketball teams play on Saturdays and always have and I am sure that he knew what his HS game schedule was when he originally scheduled to announce tomorrow. My guess is that either he has family that he wants to be in town for the announcement and there was a snag with them getting there or he would like his announcement to be televised and he couldn't get a spot until Tuesday.

  • "Vaughn has two games this weekend and wants to focus on them and then move to his decision."

    From Eric Bossi, Rivals.com

Guess he does not want those UNLV fans booing him in attendance at his Saturday game after he announced his ISU selection.

I am going to Vegas Saturday, I will see if I can attend his game, and will be wearing ISU colors loud and proud.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

Everyone that is hyperventilating, please do me a favor. Stop worrying for a second and hear me out.

We have a man in the program that turned a team around in one year. After that first rough season, we have had a very good basketball team. Every year, the national media expects us to be down. It hasn't happened yet. We bring in new players and they fit the scheme. They might be transfers, freshman, whatever. They might not be McDonald's All Americans but they play true to the team. This team, and this man, accomplish against the proverbial odds.

That man is obviously Fred Hoiberg. He is the lynch pin, and will forever be more valuable than any single player on this team. His coaching puts our players in a position to succeed. Kane was good at Marshall. He is great at ISU. Every player that has entered Hilton as a Cyclone has left as a more highly regarded basketball player. (With a few minor exceptions.)

If CFH gets RV. Awesome. We will be fine. If he doesn't, take a step back. We will be fine. We have a coach that is all over the national media landscape. We have a team that many consider a Dark horse come March. Times are good and getting better. Don't let the decision making process of a teenage boy get you down. Our league competition may despise our fan base, but they unanimously respect Fred Hoiberg - and that speaks to the direction this team continues to head.

Look at the recruits we are getting. Morris, Kane, Niang, Custer. Smart players who understand how to work at the game. It's not about making themselves shine. It's about making the team win. Winners will find this program and it will continue to grow. The guys that don't come here don't find being a part of that appealing enough to join it. Just wish them luck knowing they missed an opportunity to learn from one of basketball's brightest minds. It truly is their loss.

We are witnessing special times regarding Cyclone basketball. If you spend your hours ******* and praying one player decides to join the team, you may miss what an unbelievably awesome time it is to be a fan of ISU basketball.

I hear ya! Well said. AND, while talent is GREAT, maybe having someone who needs a tv announcement would bring someone in that "could care less" about team ball? Again, I think Fred has shown he can manage personalities and we will be fine with or without RV.

Meh, I don't mind, I bounce into mega thread about 3 times per day and just jump to the last page, hope I didn't miss anything of importance.

I think it's safe to assume that.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

Personally (no facts here) I think Kaffey had it all set up when they announced Vaughn was headed to Vegas. He gets his asst job while rashad attends Findlay and either stays there or finds something to do on UNLV staff when Vaghn gets there. What would Kaffey do if Vaughn chose ISU? I don't think he'd stay in Vegas. Would he move to Ames? Back to MN? Rashad hasn't been without him since 4th grade.

I know I am misinformed regarding this Kaffey guy, but why does RV need and/or want him around? Plenty has (deservingly) been made of Kaffey's legal issues and thus, his general morality, but I am more interested in RV's perspective in the relationship. It just seems odd that a player of RV's age would want some older guy hanging around him all the time. It's weird.

The whole situation seems awfully shady to me and I still don't exactly know why. Don't get me wrong, I still want RV to be a Cyclone in a huge way, but the Kaffey thing rubs me the wrong way. It also gives UNLV an "in" since RV could stay close to his "older buddy" that "earned" his "assistant coaching" job for the Findlay Prep Fightin' Eleven. My cousin (b-ball player; junior in high school) received a Findlay brochure in the mail the other day... Findlay Prep: We virtually guarantee you will finish top 10 in your class.
