Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

I don't believe that the staff is leaking any real information after spending countless hours on the recruitment.

I agree. I call BS on anyone that thinks they know anything about this. Hoiberg is not dumb enough to risk the commitment of a recruit this big by blabbing about it IMO.

I wouldn't doubt if Fred even knows what Vaughn's decision is yet? Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't. But he surely isn't going to risk letting that info get out.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

I've been hesitant to post to the craziness in this thread, but I might as well put in my two cents so I can at least say I posted in this thread.

It seems to me that there is a lot of smoke coming from the UNLV camp thinking they have won. Earlier this week, when RV announced that he was going to announce, I felt very confident we would get him. Even after the initial report from Jerry Meyer, I felt confident, but I must admit that I've been losing hope.

To me, the (very) limited information that we do know indicates that RV is going to UNLV. ISU's staff was caught off-guard that he was announcing early. UNLV thinks they won. Jerry Meyer's sources knew that the announcement might be postponed.

I'm not here to argue about it - I'm just saying that I'm not very hopeful anymore. UNLV's "sources" could easily be wrong, but to me that seems unlikely.

Of course, I think RV is making a mistake (I'm an ISU homer). To me, if I was a shooting guard with his talent, I can't think of any coach in America I would rather play for right now. Especially with the team that ISU has coming in next year. I believe that RV is talented enough that he'll make the NBA where ever he goes, but I have to believe that his stock will be higher if he's at ISU.

That's my two cents.

IF I was on the staff, and IF I knew something, and IF I didn't want to screw something up by letting the cat out of the bag, I MIGHT say I was surprised to hear he was going to commit to someone.

I think he's in Vegas because it was a "this town's not big enough for the two of us" thing with T. Jones.

I watched a UNLV game the other night-they stink.

Here we are.

We're on TV enough to produce a #1 pick.

The Cleveland GM that took Anthony Bennett with the first pick was also fired earlier this week because AB is massive bust but if you want to keep bragging go right ahead.

Are you in grade school by chance? It's this garbage that makes this board borderline unreadable and ISU fans look like whiny punks. He or she has said nothing other than something you don't want to hear. Grow up.

Wow, you are misguided.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

It does sound like all the buzz is coming from the UNLV staff. There is a post to that effect on CR, and our newest UNLV "friend" seems to corroborate that. Apparently they are confident Vaughn is in the bag and that is trickling out. It sounds like nothing is coming out of our camp. Could be some UNLV staff members are a little over confident, or it could mean Vaughn is theirs. Who knows.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

We know one person knows, and that is Rashad. Yet, in a blog post updated yesterday by Adam Zagoria (yet another pundit/"expert") Vaughn said he was still in the process of deciding.

Nothing any of us can do about it, and I learned a long time ago not to spend much time on those things you cannot control. If Rashad commits to ISU, great! ISU will get a very good player and Rashad will get a coach and style of play that will prepare him for his ultimate goal, the NBA as well, if not better than any other coach and program in the country. If he goes to UNLV, UNLV will get a very good player who still will probably get drafted. ISU will still survive and with CFH will continue to thrive and grow as a program. It will not be the end of the world.

I still want to stay positive. Rashad waiting until Tuesday to announce (not Sunday, not Monday) is a good sign I think. ISU coaches and the program will be tied up on Sunday and Monday with travel and a game. Tuesday they will be available. That may just be a courtesy on Rashad's part, or it could mean something. Or nothing at all. I'm still going to stay positive about it, but whatever happens, happens.

Que sera, sera.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

I beg to differ. We are the better program and the better team IMO. UNLV is NEVER on national TV. We are all the time. Their conference, and the their schedule, stinks compared to ours. ISU would have been in the tourney 10 years in a row with their schedule IMO.

Here are just a few of the schools that UNLV has lost to this year already.....

Dixie State (exhibition)
UC Santa Barbara
Illinois
Arizona State
Air Force
Nevada Reno

I mean c'mon. They will probably go on to make the tourney again this year because they are 15-8, but you'd have to be really bad to not be 15-8 with their schedule.

If Vaughn wants national exposure, it's not even a question which school would give that to him.... Iowa State. UNLV is NEVER on TV. They never play any big games, except against Arizona, but nobody even cares when they play them either.
LOL at the exposure angle. It's a shame the NCAA selection committee didn't realize UNLV can't get on tv when they seeded UNLV higher than ISU the last two years. Do you think the NBA doesn't already know all about Vaughn? Pull your head out of your ***.

LOL. Love this. But this tells me something.. Love it though.

To me it has the feel of something a jilted boyfriend/girlfriend would post on Facebook. "Oh, you don't want me? We'll I'm gonna let everyone know how great I am and how much fun I'm having without you!"

The exposure angle does have some merit. Exhibit A: DeAndre Kane

Branding. It's a lot harder for these guys to enter the league with a reputation of any sort without the exposure of big games and all.

Sure, the scouts know who he is, but the fans don't. Being on TV gets the name out there a lot better than being off of TV.

Thats absolute garbage. ISU offers lots of pro's over UNLV, but branding sure as hell isn't one of them. He's not going to make more money in the pro's b/c he was good at ISU versus being good at UNLV.

Btw, go look at the last 10 years worth of drafts and you'll see plenty of kids going in the top 10 that are from smaller schools, leagues, and in some cases, overseas. This isn't 1980. The #1 overall pick last year was at a smaller school in a smaller conference. He would be no further ahead had he played at ISU. Branding or $$$$ wise. Last years rookie of the year came Weber State.
