No Waldo Wegner? ISU's first basketball All-American, and there's no mention? He also played every minute of his three year career except for the first half of his first game. I can remember giving him a standing ovation at one game--must have been 1998.

I'll throw Ron Virgil on the list as a whimsical semi-sarcastic post.

He played center-like defense at 6'4" against 6'11" All-American Michigan star Roy Tarpley that helped win the game that put ISU MBB on the national map.

Not sure you know what you are talking about here Sparky, Victor was one heck of a ball player.

Find it hard that you claim he "wasn't that good" but you rate Cato and Loren Meyer with never seeing them play.

ig Vic played before both of them. Considering that both Brackins and Fizer are forwards - and actually having seen them all play, I would say Victor was the best offensive player of the group - by far and the same could be said for Cato on the defensive end.

Yea... it makes sense now, because I didn't understand why anyone would have Chris Alexander on any list. Basically my list doesn't matter, because I haven't been around long enough to see the majority of people on the list, and I barely remember Fizer and Shirley.

I ranked Homan so high because he was one of my all-time favorite players at ISU (again, only been following for about 8 or 9 years). His toughness was something we haven't had since IMO. I distinctly remember his last game where he had something like 19 points and 21 rebounds against UNC. That was the year they had May, Felton, etc. He was good for his last two years, but his last year towards the end of the year I remember him improving a lot. He was one of the best post defenders we've had in a long time.

I would probably place Brackins at the top. I'm too young to have seen Cato or Meyers play, and I barely remember seeing Fizer play because I was in 5th grade during the 2000 season. And is Alexander referring to Chris Alexander? The guy who only played in like 20 games as a Cyclone? Because I would have to rank him near the bottom.

What? Are you kidding me? He was the greatest offensive center I have seen at ISU (I didn't see those before the 80's). He was 1st string all conference twice if memory serves me correctly, and a first round draft choice (17th overall) in the NBA. He had the best hands of any big man I have seen. He could stroke the 15-18 foot J, and was able to get by with more hooks with his elbow on spin moves of any big man I have seen. Vic was the real deal. We had a good starting 5 with him, but not much depth. Tough to know how good of defender he might have been, as we couldn't afford for him to get into foul trouble.

This is hard because a few of these guys aren't centers, but I'll put my list of best players:
1. Marcus Fizer - NOT a center, a forward
2. Kelvin Cato - best center we EVER had - wish we would have got 4 years...
3. Dean Uthoff - Never saw him play but his name is everywhere in the record book...
4. Brackins - NOT a center, a forward
5. Loren Meyer - an absolute STUD
6. Vic Alexander - Turned into a tub but was pretty tough when here.
7. Jared Homan - Four year starter and an absolute horse.
8. Paul Shirley - Again, I don't know if I consider him a center, but a great player for four years for us. 3 year starter
9. Jackson Vroman - GREAT center who worked his butt off for us all the time. Wish we would have got 4 out of him too.
10. Jiri Hubalek - Took him two of his three years to learn that he WAS a center at 6'11"

You guys don't give Loren Meyer (not Myers) enough credit. He was a load to handle and was pretty skilled. You have to remember that he was probably the 3rd option on that team behind Fred and Julo and he was in the Big 8 when it was full of NBA Centers. There is no way guys like Shirley, Vroman and Homan would have been able to handle him playing at the same times in their careers respectively. I realize a lot of you guys are pretty young and can only go by who you have seen play, but you should look at the ISU media guide sometime and check out the all-time records. I bet you would be fairly surprised by some of the names in there.

Meyer was a 1st round draft choice in the NBA also if my memory serves me correctly. Dallas Maveriks I think.

I still don't understand people's obsession with Homan... Hubalek was far more skilled and worked his tail off... That being said, Meyer was better than both of them...
