Same argument Hawks fans have been using as to why they want to drop ISU from their schedule. Seriously, its UNI. Has ISU ever lost to UNI when ISU's program was not at rock bottom? As long as we put a decent team on the field, and have a good game plan going into the game, UNI should never be a concern.
Also, scheduling UNI will keep ISU in good standing with the Regents, and that can help down the road.
Tired of this response as well... UNI (LOWER DIVISION) than Central Michigan and Iowa State. Yea in the past losing to ISU and Central Michigan wasn't great for you, however whenever ANY FBS team loses to an FCS team it makes the news. Only time it matters if ISU or Central Michigan upset someone is if it is one of the top 25. When Kansas lost to NDSU it made news.
For the last time, UNI is
not a rival in football (no FBS team should have a lower division rival). UNI literally is in a lower division than ISU and Iowa in football, whereas the rib from Iowa against ISU for year was just a jab but they are in the same sphere. We were above average last time we played UNI and almost lost... so while we do lose the them we when are at our worst, we also could have lost to them at other points as well, when we weren't at a low point in the program.
I am not saying don't play UNI, I am saying don't play them every freaking year, it is boring.
ISU fans will fill the seats for the first three home games of the season regardless of who is playing, unless we go 2-10 the previous season or 0-2 the first two home games, and even then if you put a W on the table, ISU fans will show up. I've been in the stadium for the ISU UNI game on multiple occasions, its 95% Cyclones. This is not the ISU-Iowa game. There are simply not enough UNI fans to really have an impact one way or another. As long as you aren't shipping in Chattanooga State or South Central Western Florida Gulf Coast Agricultural Institute, the games will be full. There are numerous FCS teams surrounding Iowa. We are right in the Missouri Valley footprint, their fans are already traveling within the footprint. I have a feeling that playing UNI every year will eventually drive down attendance because it will just be the same thing every year.
And to respond to the regents argument... so you're saying that now the Regents will start giving favor to ISU over Iowa because ISU plays UNI and Iowa doesn't? Or that ISU will get any benefit because it helps keep UNI afloat? Sounds pretty silly when someone else types it, right?
