I did the Dollar Shave Club subscription for a while (not the most expensive blades, but the next level down), and they worked fine for my face, but I got cut up pretty well shaving my head. They also make it a bit of a pain in the butt to cancel. I delayed my shipment two or three times before I finally found the spot on their website to cancel.

Your not supposed to put in their when shaving it are you?

Wait, you use those blades 2-3 times then change them out?

I use my Fusion blades for 3-6 months before changing them out, probably use them 3-4 times/week.

This is what my sons do, and part of why they are probably less expensive than Dad and DSC. And I have gotten them in bulk on Amazon when there is a deal.

I used to think the cheapest blades were the way to go, but I could only use them a couple times. The fusion blades are really nice and comfortable, and I have had really good luck with them lasting forever.

No idea how you do that. I can get two shaves (head and face) max out of a blade before it starts cutting me up.

We are talking about the same thing, right?

I usually use a Braun electric shaver. I have a quite heavy beard. Blade razors give me great shaves but they irritate my skin after about 2 shaves. My electric was not working, so I had to buy a blade razor, and I bought a Gillette Mach3 razor for sensitive skin.

Wow, now I get really good close shaves with no irritation. I get 30 shaves, where I used to get only about 10 per blade. I do take a break once a week to not shave or to use the electric.

I have tree trunks for facial hair. I also can't shave within 3 days of my last shave or I get severe razor burn. So cutting longer hair probably causes my razor to dull faster.

I have about 25 DSC blades piled up in my bathroom. They last forever. I keep reducing the frequency they send them. Probably won't need another for 5 years

I am using DSC. Have thought about switching to DE but have a huge stockpile of blades so I might take that plunge after i use them all up.

As a side note, i've kicked using canned foam in favor of shaving soap and a brush. Currently using Proraso Green soap and Nivea aftershave cream. My face is literally baby smooth for 24 hours after a shave.

I'd recommend to everyone, regardless of how you get your blades, you switch to soap and a brush.

Add in the DE and this is me.

Best choice I've made in a while was ditching the cartridge world.

Really cheap to get in. Quality badger brush is probably the most expensive piece.

And I cut myself way more with cartridges than ever have with DE (feather razor blades). Also if I ever get called to wrestle Ric Flair it's nice to know I'll be able to blade myself.

I started using Harry's six months ago and I bought for my sons and wife too. They are great, cheap, easy to get. Delivery is free no matter how much or what you get. The first kit includes shave gel, two blades and a handle for $15. 8 blades cost $15 and ship free. If you are interested in trying a Harry's for free let me know. I just got a promo from them to provid free startup kit for two "friends". PM me.

PS. ALSO, YOU DON'T HAVE TO SIGN UP FOR ANY LONG TERM AUTO ORDER. YOU ORDER WHAT YOU WANT, WHEN YOU WANT IT.

Testifying
Longtime DE shaving guy:
Use crown shaving co pretty glide gel.
Use a rotation of creams. Usually Taylor of Old Bond or Art of Shaving.
Use WSP silver tip Badger brush.
Merkur Futur with Feather stainless blade set at a #2 .
Prorasso after shave, once in a while Taylor sandalwood gel.

As fancy as all that sounds I probably spend less than Mach 3 people.

I'm curious about a straight edge.

Been using DE for about 10 years. #1 learn proper technique#2 I have a bunch but my favorite is a Merkur 34C HD#3 As far as blades buy a variety pack and see what you like. I like Feathers. #4 Art of shaving cream is great but $. I use Taylor of Old Bond which has the same consistency. #5 Buy a nice brush but not crazy. You can get a decent one for $30. #6 Buy an alum black to stop bleeding. You will bleed.

I'd like to know how people straight edge their own face. Maybe I'm too jittery to even consider it.

I have received a straight edge at a DSM barber shop several times. Very close shave and you feel like a king after you're done. Highly recommend that every man get at least one of them in his lifetime.

I went old school DE blades about a decade ago when they wanted to start charging ridiculous amounts for the Mach 3.

I don't have crazy facial hair so I only have to shave 2-3 times a week, it takes me perhaps twice as long to do a good job as using the cutting edge multi-blade, but shaving becomes something that costs me about $10 a year instead of $240/year. I usually still have one or two Mach 3 blades laying around if I am ever crazy late for something and need to rush but I go many years without buying any.

I got 100 Feather brand japanese DEs off ebay a year ago for practically nothing which are often said to be the best you can get, like $12 for 100.
