I'll admit I would laugh pretty hard if the regents try to drag Cal along as a package deal and end up getting both Cal and UCLA left out. Even funnier is if UCLA gets traded for someone like UW instead of Stanford. At least if Stanford takes the spot some of that money still flows in to Cali. But I can see UW being a more appealing option.

If the big 10 really is all about trying to get ND in eventually, getting Stanford in might be their preferred option.

I would laugh even harder if the B1G, says fine and takes Sanford, UW and Ore, getting to 18 and says have fun Cali politicians with your new Pac8.

Not exactly sure.
That's like telling your son who has a date to the prom with the hottest girl in school they can't go because their dumbass brother doesn't have a date. It's absolutely stupid.

The simple fact is both of these programs are hemmoraging cash. They'll never block it because the alternative is that the taxpayers pay off facility upgrades for UCLA.
Many times, those “smart” college leaders do very dumb things because of arrogance and pride.

I honestly think that ND hates the B1G so much and values their independence so much that they will never join that league. At least not for money or access to rivals on the schedule. The only way I see it is if they are totally blocked from the playoff.

ND has enough money and donors they can't be bought by media money like everyone else. And while they have many rivals now in the B1G, I think the only one they are dead set on playing annually forever and ever is Navy. Their series with other rivals all tend to have breaks from time to time.

ND is like that ugly chick that you shunned that went and got hot. She is never going to forgive or forget now that you want to get with her.

Where is the evidence that they hate the Big Ten? They play some members every year in FB, usually multiple members. They ARE IN the B1G for Hockey.

The rest I pretty much agree about not joining unless they absolutely have to.

What’s going to be fun is when ESPN decides to outbid NBC for the Notre Dame home games that are up soon. Throws a bit of a wrench in NBC’s Big Ten idea to push things toward those Notre Dame home games.
That’s not going to happen. ND likes their 3:30 est kickoffs with NBC and ABC will have the #1 SEC game on in that slot. ND will want that on OTA, not ESPN.

And thing is, with Stanford and USC, that might get them there if the big 10 remains on a 9 game conference schedule.

Are stanford\USC going to drop their cross-town games with Cal and UCLA? I doubt it. So that's 10 power conference games. The same ones every year. Are these two schools going to want to play the same 11 of those teams (Cal\UCLA and ND in addition to the 9 game schedule) every year? They'd likely have to drop one or the other. If that's ND, who does ND schedule?

Basically in the early days ND very much wanted to join the league, but a few B1G schools blocked the move due to some anti Irish, anti immigrant views. ND has held that grudge ever since.

Board of regents won’t be able to block UCLA. If they do, which I don’t see it’s the death of UCLA to stay in the PAC.

That’s over 100 years ago. I don’t believe they hate the Big Ten over that. Again, they are already Big Ten members in hockey.

They hate the Big Ten. I went to grad school there. I think it was part of orientation. My sons were admitted there but chose to go elsewhere. I think the history was still part of an admissions video. And it wasn’t just Irish, it was anti-Catholic bigotry. And not just Michigan but also Ohio State. ND quit playing Nebraska for similar reasons although they were not in the conference that became the Big 10. Guarantee every actual ND grad knows the story and hates the Big 10.

I have an Uncle who went there and all his kids(my cousins) did too and they all hate the Big Ten. But fan/rivalry hate is different than the administration. They hate the Big Ten too, but If ND feels it is in their best interest to join the Big Ten(not saying they will), they will hug it out and join.

And I'm half Irish at minimum.

They have a lot of options and love independence so it would have to be to the point that they can't compete anymore before they give that up.
