As someone who lives in Salt Lake, I know a lot of Utah fans. They have a vocal minority on Twitter, but all that I've met in person seem just fine. They are very passionate about Utes football and absolutely hate BYU. It honestly reminds me a lot of the CyHawk level of hate, but then you have the extra religious element thrown on top of it. I've been to a night game there and not only were the fans super welcoming, but it was an amazing atmosphere.

I think the whole "Utah thinks they are too good for the Big 12" things is way overblown, and it has more to do with BYU than anything else. They got elevated to P5, and BYU went independent. They've dominated the rivalry the past decade plus and feel like they have been a superior program. BYU gets elevated, and now Utah may have to beg their way back to a Big12 where BYU already has a seat. If ISU were in that same scenario with Iowa, we would hate it to. That's something your rival can hang over your head for a while. It's kind of happening with UT and A&M, the Aggies are already making "little brother" jokes to the UT fanbase.

The SEC is and always has been top heavy. Take away the top few schools from each conference and the Big12 is the best one.

But obviously the top two schools is all that matters anymore, the rest of the conference is irrelevant.

Nobody is close to the SEC now or recently.

There have been plenty of seasons since Big 12 was formed that it rated out higher in football than the SEC though. Maybe a year or two where Big Ten did. I highly doubt the Pac or ACC has ever rated out higher than SEC since Big 12 formed.

Big 12 is doing same thing in basketball to perhaps an even greater degree when you look at # of teams. Since deadweight Nebraska and Colorado left nobody has even been close in terms of success per team.

Utahs TV numbers have been good. They’d be a top half in viewership in the new Big 12, if not top 2-3.

They don't get the Big 12 much in legacy media value outside of ad eyeballs, but in a future where active viewership becomes more important they will be a good brand.

However, rather than invite them, may as well see if the PAC implodes or waters down further. The more those things happen, the stronger negotiating position the Big 12 has.

Short of UW or Oregon, there's nobody left to poach right now that is going to result in a significant revenue boost for the existing teams in the league. But if Oregon and/or UW get a Big 10 invite, then even Utah is going to be willing to join with a deal friendly to the existing members.

The significant revenue boost would come from the escalator, for bringing in new P5 markets in a new Time Slot. Thus increasing the current deal for that or adding a new media partner for that content.

Mostly none are a huge value add straight up, it is just that adding that new window, nationwide would open another slot for the Big 12. In essence we would be adding the Pac 12s media slots, (Mountain and Pacific) to our current slots (Eastern and Central)

This is the biggest problem with the Pac10 they are only in those media markets and those are the lowest value time slots. They would be a great add to our media package, but being alone in the west really hurts their value... as well as other issues. Them taking $25M for media deal is a huge loss for them, but us adding even $10M for adding a select number of teams and that additional content would be a huge boost to our already done deal per school.

So we can actually accept less money for them as a total package over the 7 years and still pay out more, when divided amongst the members, as long as it is on top of our existing deal, and we only take 4 or maybe 6 teams. And the media partner gets the content needed in that window.

If by top heavy you mean having several different schools win multiple national championships in the last 20 years then ok.

My biggest concern is none of the teams who jump to the Big 12 be given special treatment, and I guess I'm mainly referring to Oregon and Washington.

Special treatment for some members (e.g., Texas) is what can kill a conference and it nearly killed the Big 12. If Oregon or Washington decide to join, that's great, but they have to join under the same exact conditions as every other member.

I do think they are the two biggest brands "available" but, it's not UT and OU big, they are between OuT and the rest of the solid Big12. I don't know how much weight they could actually throw around, if they leave, big whoop, we as a conf have been thru hell and back. What ever happens now is not going to kill us we know that now, not scared. If the B1G comes calling, or the SEC, nothings going to stop them, or oSu or KU or ISU or whoever.

But more than conference, I think what doesn’t get talked about enough is geography. There has been a total of 1 school above the 37th parallel (roughly the Tennessee/Kentucky border) that has won a national championship (Ohio St) and only one school west of the 97th longitude (central Texas) that has won a natty (USC) since 1997. The SEC is fortunate to be the most prominent conference in that region.

I wont argue but FLA is down, UT is probably a one hit wonder, and Auburn is a mess. LSU will be solid. Its still ESPN ball gagging the SEC claiming their are the best thing since sliced bread. USC has also won 2 titles in your time frame.

Sorry I edited my post while you were replying. But USC is actually still south of the 37th parallel (I double checked).
