Just because someone is upset with their current predicament doesn’t mean they have the power to change it.

I’m not dating Sydney Sweeny “something has to change”.
The opposite is equally true:

Just because someone is upset with their current predicament doesn't mean they don't have the power to change it.

That's why we have lawyers and politicians!!!

You mean “Why haven’t they proclaimed to the world that they are trying and let everyone know the plan?” (If there is one)? This is an argument but it ain’t a very good one.
This isn’t OUT or the LA schools leaving where they can do it fairly simply. This is going to take a massive legal battle that could span years even before getting into appeals. Even leaking a plan doesn’t matter because it’s happening in a court of law.

Careful, people tend to get triggered when others don't Google things around here.

That is one hell of a quote for someone who isn't thinking about breaking a GOR.
Its a legal document, on what grounds can this be "broken"? They made a ****** decision, just because you did that doesn't mean you can just get out of it.

Should the university of Oregon join the big 10?
View other drafts

Whether or not the University of Oregon should join the Big Ten is a complex question with no easy answer. There are a number of factors to consider, including the potential benefits and drawbacks of such a move for the university, the Pac-12 Conference, and the Big Ten itself.

On the one hand, joining the Big Ten would likely be a financial boon for the University of Oregon. The Big Ten is one of the wealthiest athletic conferences in the country, and its members share in a large pot of media rights revenue. Joining the Big Ten would give Oregon a share of that revenue, which could be used to improve its athletic facilities, fund scholarships, and support other academic programs.

In addition, joining the Big Ten would give Oregon a chance to compete against some of the best teams in the country on a regular basis. The Big Ten is home to some of the most storied college football programs in the country, such as Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State. Playing against these teams would help Oregon raise its profile and attract top recruits.

However, there are also some potential drawbacks to joining the Big Ten. One concern is that it would weaken the Pac-12 Conference. If Oregon and Washington were to leave the Pac-12, it would leave the conference with only 10 teams. This would make it more difficult for the Pac-12 to schedule games and could lead to a decline in its overall competitiveness.

Another concern is that joining the Big Ten would mean playing more games in the Midwest. Oregon is located in the Pacific Northwest, and its fans are accustomed to warm weather and early starts. Playing games in the Midwest, where the weather is often cold and the games start much later, could make it difficult for Oregon to maintain its fan base.

Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to join the Big Ten is a difficult one for the University of Oregon. There are a number of factors to consider, and there is no easy answer

The AI's out there answer these questions like a high school freshman in comp class.

I'm failing to see the genius here.

Patrick Crakes, former Fox media guy, was on 365 Sports today. He said there isn't any value in expansion for anybody (he probably meant in the current rumored teams). Thus, this means CU, AZ, ASU. He also said the PAC will come out fine. I agree. I still think a very low chance any PAC schools come to the Big 12.

While adding PAC teams to the Big 12 may not increase the annual share of TV revenue that each Big 12 team will receive, it adds significantly to the life expectancy of the Big 12 conference. I'd say that's added value.

Locked On Big 12 has summed it up well - are you willing to give up a rather insignificant sum for your university to guarantee your conference survives; the answer for every Big 12 school is an overwhelming “yes”

Completely agree.

Longer term risk—expansion does create more “mouths to feed”. I believe BY’s (or the next commissioner) career willl be judged by the next media deal the big 12 gets, not the one we just got.

I think there is some truth to this. The Pac still doesn't have a TV deal presumably because the offers suck. The offers suck because their teams don't draw. The 4 corners schools are the middle of the pack in conference as far as value. So how much money could the B12 make by acquiring mid tier schools from a conference worth significantly less than our own? Maybe that doesn't make us any money at all.

Perhaps the more likely angle is to kill the Pac as a future competitor. But maybe that isn't necessary either. With USC and UCLA gone and no great expansion candidates, maybe the are so wounded already that they won't ever be a threat to the B12.

I'd rather have some consistency as a conference rather than increase my overall $$.

Those schools could leave for the same amount of money but be in a conference where it's teams aren't looking to jump somewhere every other year.

The Grant of Rights are in place as much for the TV networks as the schools/conferences. Networks essentially require them during the broadcasting rights negotiations and as we saw with OUT leaving the Big 12, it was the TV networks that were doing a lot of the work on the buyout so that they were made whole from lost/changed broadcast inventory.

So I fail to see why ESPN would lose a good deal with the current ACC members to pay some of them more in the SEC and likely reopen the ACC TV contract in the process. The only option I see for current ACC members is getting the current Grant of Rights nullified in the courts (which seems unlikely) or move to the Big 10 and use the increased conference revenue to offset the large exit fee.

So is the PAC 12 just going to carry on without a media deal when their current one runs out? ESPN/Fox are basically forcing them to break apart.

AZ is Yormarks golden goose, they make the league better for BBall while being a state flagship and already having p5 football. If Gonzaga even had G5 football they’d already be in the conference in my opinion. If you gotta pry Colorado loose to get Zona you do it. In an ideal world the sec and big 10 are told that anymore expansion dilutes their product forever so no more realignment. This causes Oregon and Washington to move to big 12 to be in power conference # 3 and brings us to 16.
