You should listen to the Ourand podcast with Finebaum. One of the most level headed takes I’ve heard. I think people look at Finebaum as just an SEC talking head but he is a long long time employee of ESPN and was in the room when the SEC Network went live and helped get Dish and DTV on board.
It was a reasonable take by Finebaum, but it was only a couple years ago I heard him declare the 10 team Big 12 all but dead because their total media contract was less than the PAC and ACC, even though on a per team basis it was higher. So I’m not sure I will ever get over that stupidity.

That's not what it was. Twitter was originally a place to share and engage with whatever you pleased.

It started with users simply telling other users what they were up to. "eating breakfast". Obviously that got stale, and it started to be a place to share jokes, mostly observational humor because characters were limited and it was text-based. Then it became a place to share news and other forms of media. The discussion on Twitter became more important than the comments section on your website. Then Twitter became the news source.

More than anything, your Twitter feed was a reflection of your tastes. As long as you're curating your follows, you should mostly get posts that you're interested in. But the For You tab completely discards that experience. What it actually means is "For Elon". It wants to send you crap and hope that you stay on the app because you can't look away from the crap. It's the opposite of what it used to be.

You can act like you've always been above the fray and not joined in, but all that really means is you never figured out how to use Twitter effectively. If you enjoy sports and news, Twitter used to be extremely valuable. Since Elon took over, it's become more of a random internet bulletin board that wants you to engage with lowest common denominator content.
Honestly nothing has changed for me since he took over lol.

I still see "mostly" everything i want to see under my "following" tab. Occasional promoted tweet.

The "For Your" is mostly curated to sports with occassional other thigns I don't care for but it doesn't necessarily bug me.

I stay on the following tab about 95% of the time.

It’s the same for me. Other than the For You tab which I quickly figured out I’d never use.

Yeah he might be right, but he is still an obnoxious, self-interested, self-important, ESECPN shill.

So he is running the PAC down, bfd. That's his job - to pump viagra into SEC fans and throw his feces at every other conference. Such a worm.

Twitter is (well was) what you want(ed) it to be.

It’s a cesspool if you follow cesspools.
It used to be that way. And that's why I liked it for a long time.

The problem, and reason I ditched it, is because you didn't have to follow cesspools that get them constantly shoved in your face. That's a post Elon change.

Facebook is actually easier to modify to rid yourselves of that ****, and Facebook sucks.

Kind of similar to cf the way people describe it.
CF wouldn't have lasted this long if the vast majority wasn't interested in healthy dialogue rather than yelling and shouting. There is no comparison between CF and Twitter or Facebook.

And before he was running the Big 12 down and pumping up the PAC and ACC, even buying the OU and UT could still go to the PAC a couple years ago.

But hey, it's only recently that people have really started reporting media dollars on a per team basis, and it's pretty unreasonable to expect a grown man to understand how division works.

When it came to using his "expertise" to actual take a stab at what might happen before it happened, he was horribly, horribly wrong. Forgive me if I don't give him props for doing a complete 180 only after the Big 12 numbers come out and he can see that the per team dollars are greater than the ACC and what is being rumored for the PAC as their negotiations languish.

I act like I'm above the fray and not joined in????? I've literally never had a twitter account after I saw that crap that was going on with a group of JH kids I was overseeing a little under 10 years ago. It was obvious then that it was going to be a cess pool and I had interest in wading into it. So there is no acting that I've never joined, I never have.
Lol you thought that middle schoolers were reflective of how the app was being used?

I realize you never joined, just saying it's easy to say it's a cesspool without ever trying it. It used to be very useful.

I mostly agree and stick to my following tab (used to be Latest Tweets). I wouldn't say the other content "bugs" me as much as I prefer the experience from 2015-2020. And I think the For You tab is a bad influence on most users and dumbs down the content and interactions. It's become more similar to Facebook.

I think a lot of people who call it a cesspool hang out in the replies way too much. Scroll, read, move on. Fighting with random people in the comments is for Facebook.

When you actually dig in the psychology of human behavior, you see that most human behavior still hovers around middle school level. Many people want to think they are so much better and higher than that, but most aren’t. So yes, seeing how middle schoolers react to and with social media, and many other things, will give you a very good idea of how things will transpire since middle schoolers don’t try to disguise their behavior.

It isn't that serious. Twitter used to be mostly for news reporting, sharing articles, talking about sports, and making dumb jokes. You've never used it, so I can see why you're confused about its function.

I rarely use Twitter, I have an account basically to view and see posts etc on here esp when you need to click through to read everything and the follow-ups, and other links to it. I rarely open it otherwise, unless I see something that I am specifically looking for. I have all notifications turned off etc. Only look at what I want most of the time.
