I hate the idea of this whole thing, how about taking all the money and paying down some debt, or balacing the budget a little. This is just a horrible idea. We are basically taking a cash advance on the national credit card, and we are all going to have to pay this back later WITH interest.
It will be based on the 2007 tax year (the taxes that are due by April 15, 2008).
Good deal for me because we just had another kid Nov. 1, 2007. So if it all works out an extra $300 in my pocket for having that child for only 1/6th of 2007.
Since the government has not even passed this yet, and does not look to pass it in the near future, I would think we would not see anything until fall.
<sigh> Oh well, maybe we'll have it in time for the ISU game in Vegas, Baby Vegas!
Maybe they won't pass this and the real economic stimulus will come from people taht are expecting this money and go on a spending spree in advance. Suckers.
The articles I've read said even with the delays it shouldn't delay the actual checks...yet.
Damn, I already spent this years rebate, and I figured we'd probably get one next year so I spent that too!
Pretty sure it is based on tax-year 2007. So if they claimed you in 2007, they will get it, not you.
I think he might be confusing tax returns with the tax years they're associated with.
If on the return that your is filing as we speak, he claims you as a dependent, then he gets the moolah, if he doesn't then you should get it.
Can we stop calling this a rebate check yet? If people who didn't pax taxes get this, its not a rebate anymore.

Jamaica in the summer time? Hurricane season my friend. I went in January several years back and it was great.
Meh, we are going in early July. We'll be fine. I went to the DR late August last summer and that big hurricane JUST missed us. :wideeyed:
Also, it's for my sis-in laws wedding so I dont have a choice on date.
Who was whining? It's rather accurate - kind of tough to call if a rebate if everyone is getting it - regardless of how much of if they paid taxes.
Kind of like if I got a "rebate" just by walking into a retail store without even spending a dollar. That's not a rebate, it's free money, a store credit, etc.

They should give rebates based on the percentage of taxes paid if they really want to call it a rebate! That would make people mad, but is the only fair way to do this.
The problem with a rebate check is that we are forever in debt to the Chinese and Japanese. We keep borrowing more and more. The hope of issuing a rebate check is to stimulate the economy and the only thing that people are going to do with that check is go out an buy more Chinese/Japanese electronics and merchandise. It's a fake fix and all we are doing is making much of Asia richer and richer.
