Per information from Ryan James (Minnesota Rivals) 2014 PG Darrion Strong (Quakerdale - New Promise Academy, IA) will attend tonight's game between Iowa State and Oklahoma. Iowa State has shown interest in Strong since this past summer, he plays on the Minnesota Pump N Run AAU team.

This is interesting with Custer already on board for that class.

Man, Fred has serious offers out to 3 other point guards for the 2013 & 14 classes and is showing interest to Strong and the Northeast CC player in NE. Loves him some guards. It seems that he isn't chasing too many big guys as he just seems fine with signing CC or transfer players at the big spot.

Who is our best shot at a true big man in the next few years?

It is very interesting. I recant my statement about Zabo or maybe these other guard offers are subject to Vaughn turning us down as well. Lots O' guards.

As you can see from this year, dont get worked up about bigs, I honestly dont think Fred recruits centers, he likes skilled PF's (Niang), he loves the matchup nightmares they create...

I watched Custer play on TV a couple weeks back. I have to admit that I didn't watch the whole game and only watched maybe 10 min or so, but I was not overly impressed. My quick reaction is that he's not a KU type athlete by any means and on the small side. I could see him developing into a solid PG. Maybe has a ceiling in the same range as Holloway athletically, but will probably be a little better shooter.

Again, it was only part of one game, so you can't tell too much.

smh

The kid has offers from OU, OSU, KSU, USC and you discount his abilities after 10 minutes of observation. Maybe you need to expand your sample size before you draw conclusions.

You need to go back and watch the replay of when they beat delasalle mn with Reid and Jarvis. He was impressesive and practically beat them by himself.

I agree, ever since Coach Hoiberg arrived he has non traditional centers... VanderBeken, Royce and now Niang. I really think this is his philosophy and is added benefit in playing against KU, BU, and even Texas who tradtionally have low post threats. (actually the team that did and would cause us the most problems is Mizzou which plays the same way and gave KU fits for years.) As we have seen in many of these game it causes the opposition to pull out their center and go small to match up with ISU thus changing roles, getting player who are not normally on the floor involved. Obviously I would be thrilled to get a 5* center (like Noel) to help protect the basket I do expect the staff to be focused on one Big for '14 (Sean O'Mera?), but I will not concerned if it doesn't happen.

I guess you missed the 2 different parts where I explained that it was a really small sample size. That's really all I have to go on and of course time will tell.

Here nor there

Conner Frankamp is bigger and a better athlete than Custer.

Glad to see we are recruiting more guards and I think we end up bringing two more in for 2014 to go along with Custer. Most of the guys we are in on and have signed are versatile enough that we can play three of them at a time.

#Cyclones Fred Hoiberg watched 2013 6'9" Emmanuel Malou (ABCD Academy, IA) & others last night in game vs Quakerdale Prep (IA) per Malou's coach. ABCD academy has another guy, Ivan Lukic who has some D1 interest. Also, Quakerdale Prep has several players which have D1 interest including 2014 Darrion Strong who attended the game vs Oklahoma.

I can't find much of anything on Malou. Anyone else have details?

I didn't find any profile, however these video did pop up from google. I'd like to preface these are a highlight videos especially made as a recruitment device, but he looks real good, real good. Actually Perfect for CFH's system.:spinny:

Maybe a diamond in the rough Aussie, I dunno? The RecruitLists tweet last night was the first I heard of him.

So if you like dunks and shot blocks with a sprinking of three's in a 3 min span take a look.

"Game Basketball presents Emmanuel Malou outstanding combo forward out of Melbourne Australia. Emmanuel is searching for a college to take his game to the next level."
