This makes no sense to me unless he's REALLY good. It just seems so far down the list of needs.
Agreed. Fred has been getting bigger guards and now here is a fellow 6-1. Is this now the juco recruiting season?

Profile lists Medford at 6'1". Assume he's more of a combo than true point, but I have no clue. If Baylor is talking to him, say what you will, he's probably good to really good.

Some of people think Monte is more of a combo guard than a true PG and we only have two PG's on the roster for next season, if you include Monte as one. The other is a true freshman.

It hurts no one to at least look into the possibility.

Indian Hills basketball signs former NJCAA All-American Lester Medford : Sports : HeartlandConnection.com

a speedy athletic player who can shoot who's playing for the best juco in iowa? yeah, i'm confused why hoiberg is showing interest too.

we've been a PG-deficient program for the last three years - we've basically had 1, 0, and 1 legit PGs. we're not going to stop recruiting talent at that position unless we have 3 proven PGs on the roster, IMHO.

Also, if you look at it position by position what we have right now for 14/15 we actually are less deep and younger there (but maybe more talented) than any position:
1 (morris/custer)
2 (Thomas/SDW/Long/Buford)
3 (Nader/Hogue/Thomas)
4 (Hogue/Nader/Niang)
5 (Niang/Gibson/Ejozie)

Considering fred really is recruiting primarily for the next year he may be hedging his bets. A lot can happen injury, transfer etc. or one of these guys doesnt pan out. Maybe he wants to redshirt custer to put some more meat on him. But seems like he cleary is looking at another 1, a 2/3 combo type, and a solid 4. I think a good 4 is most important, but I can see the logic in wanting a 3rd pg for more depth at that position.

Hoiberg obviously really covets guard play and when you are more than happy to run 3 and 4 guard line ups, there isn't much of a problem in stockpiling guards. Especially when you factor in that we seem to have a hard time finding big men to commit.

You always keep your options open, maybe we find out one of the other guards isn't as good as we thought or shocker...someone leaves. can't wait til the last minute to start a relationship in recruiting. I wouldn't read too much into it. jordan Washington at IHCC might get a look (big man), big man at Sioux city East drawing looks as well

I wouldn't be surprised if he was just keeping close with this player and if Morris doesn't look like he will be ready to command the team next year, he will bring him in. I like Morris and Custer, but a 3rd never hurt.

Welp, another potential '14 recruit off the board.

@BFlinnFuture150: 2014 Rise Academy (PA) wing Kyle Kuzma has committed to Utah, per Kyle.

Besides Johnson, Vaughn and Macura, who else are we seriously in on?

I've had a bad feeling for some time, that this class will get out hopes up, but then we'll end up being the runner up for everyone.
