Looks like J. Terrel is going to Ok. State. Fred needs to beat Ford with more than just his brain pretty soon.

yup. sounding like NC State might get Abdul Malik Abu - man Gottfried has been mopping up on the recruiting trail. Now if he can win when it matters.

2014 won't break us. 2015 does become more important though...

Of course Custer is a great add, and we aren't done yet...

And then there are short-term gap-fills like (grad) transfers and jucos.

Unless you are signing a bunch of guys going to the nba early it is hard to get a lot of the 40-100 type players if you already have 5 top 100 talent with 2-4 years of eligibility left (Niang, Thomas, Morris, Nader, Custer, and another top 125 in SDW). Kids want to play right away, which is why the top programs that sign a lot of early NBA talent can reload but others end up with rebuilding years.

Bottom line it is hard to have a complete stable of top 100 talent. I think with Ejim leaving and our guards unproven we still could land a quality 3 or 4 (transfer or cunningham) and/or a top 10 guard like Vaughn (our talent probably helps us with him, while it hurts us with a macura) just a really narrow window.

Can anyone clue me in on how NC State and Baylor do so well recruiting? Honest question, and plz don't just say $. Those programs must have some phenomenal recruiters on their staff.

Missing on JJ, JP, and Travis now is a good thing. Chasing after those guys would be a waste of time and at least now the coaches can go balls to the wall for Vaughn which I think Is going to pay off with the biggest recruit in ISU's history.

I also think we are still a serious contender for Cunningham who I think is gonna be a stud

They are the Ron Zook's of college basketball. Great recruiters but can't coach a lick. For some reason, high level recruits still go there.

Believe it or not, Baylor has been to 3 Elite 8's recently, and they've put a few players in the NBA, and who knows, maybe being a smaller Baptist school helps them out with some guys. And apparently, parents really like Scott Drew.

Not sure on NC State. Baylor's done a lot more with it's talent than NC State, and that's not saying too much.

Just an outsider looking at the situation... If the whole coaching staff goes to Rashad Vaughn's game isn't that a serious clue that we are more than likely going to capture his pledge?? I'm
mean isn't the writing on the wall enough? Has any other college shown that much interest?

As a Cyclone fan, you have to just be absolutely elated by the latest coach recruitment of Vaughn!

hey let's not mess up the facts and make baylor look even better - they've "only" been to two elite eights. both times winning against 14, 11, and 10 seeds - talk about a nice draw!

I don't think it means that our staff knows we're going to get him. Vaughn is just a guy that the whole staff wants to come here and is going all in on. While we've obviously shown the most interest with Vaughn, it doesn't make him ours to lose. Losing three recruiting projects this past week was a blessing because it allows our entire staff to show some love for Vaughn. Really hope all this effort pays off with Wild Thing Vaughn, but it's hard to say no to a sexy school like Kentucky or Kansas. They know they don't have to try as hard as a school like Iowa State. Kentucky and Kansas remind me of the kids in high school with a lot of daddy's money and a nice car and don't even need to try but always get the hottest women.

Nice slant on things...I think UNLV, North Carolina, Minnesota, UCLA, and Iowa State make his top five. And I really do believe with all indicators pointing to Iowa State as the front runner right now.

I agree. I think we're sitting pretty good with Vaughn and there is some valid reasoning to believe that, and if he were to have to decide today, we may well end up landing him, but I worry that he'll be wowed by his visit to (fill in the blank) blueblood and end up elsewhere.
