I know. I wasn't trying to rail you (or anyone else). I just don't think anyone can look at recruiting "misses" that way. Have to look at things with hindsight, because one never knows if there was a true "miss" or not, until you can compare.

So far, there have been none I would consider "misses" yet, because Fred has brought in other guys who make me forget about the ones at other schools.

I'd hope you weren't trying to rail anyone.

Just curious- As I didn't pay attention to recruiting before this year, what recruits were the biggest gut punches when we didn't land them? ie like if we miss on Vaughn at this point?

Averaging 1.7 pts and 2.4 rebs so far. Has not attempted a 3. Compare that to say:

12 pts and 9.8 rebounds (Dustin Hogue).

Think it has turned out fine.
I do too and I'm aware of how he has performed. Never said I wanted him over Hogue but you can't deny that we wanted him bad.

Glen Rice was a bigger miss in my opinion than Barnes. Rice was actually committed to Iowa State. That would have put us in a National Title hunt picture in my opinion.

Maybe 'gut punches' wasn't the right way to put it. More like guys we recruited hard that were at least perceived to be strongly considering ISU.

I ask not out of disappointment, but because if I catch some random game it's more interesting if I know players I would otherwise know nothing about were almost Cyclones. Instead of some guy off the bench for Oregon, its Richard Amardi, briefly former Cyclone. Not exactly the same thing but you get the idea.

I seriously had no idea about Glen Rice. He was honestly my favorite player as a child. My entire childhood has become nothing but a big, fat lie after reading about this. I wore his Hornets jersey all the time when I was in elementary and middle school. Hopefully it's in my mom's attic so I can find the jersey and burn it next time I visit her. What a raging buzzkill.

Agree. Not getting Glen Rice was a severe blow to the China! He was supposedly very close to signing with the Cyclones. Was from Flint, Michigan the same area as Jeff Grayer. My Dad once told me the story, but I have since forgotten. Anyone remember ultimately why he chose Michigan over us??
He goes to ABCD Prep in Des Moines. They play against a lot of community colleges so if we did actually get him, playing that tough schedule would help prepare him you'd think. They produced one division 1 talent last year. 6-8 forward Ivan Lukic went to James Madison.
I have a colleague who is buddies with a guy that was a referee for some of ABCD's game last year. He said that Mallou has a ton of athletic ability, punished the rim when he dunked, and had a lot of D1 schools looking at him but were concerned about eligibility (which we obviously already know). I realize his highlights are against really bad competition, but Fred must like his skill set. I am pretty sure he attended a prep school in the US before ABCD. His list of offers (that he claims) is pretty impressive. It will be be interesting to see how this pans out. You would think with an offer list like that he would have a recruiting profile. I might look at their schedule and watch him play.

Also, hard to get too disappointed losing a Michigan kid to MSU. I assume they get their top couple priorities from MI each year.
