...going to work for ESPN. This should (will) dramatically improve the ESPN coverage/rankings...which I've never put much weight in before.

its a huge coup for ESPN, it will be interesting to see who Scout replaces him with. At least I hope they replace him. Scout has been better than Rivals, IMO in the past years, but Rivals has stepped up this year by adding Eric Bossi.

Crazy. Where did you see the Telep news? He does an excellent job. Been following his work since way back in the 1990's when he was with Brick Ottenger and PrepStars.

I can't stand Scout, I always go Rivals for recruiting. It seems like Scout is always behind when in comes to coverage.

I had the opportunity to somewhat get to know Dave back when I ran Cyclone Nation (which was a Scout site) back in the day. He always seemed like a nice guy who taught me a few things along the way. We would exchange emails about recruits every once in a while. He's outstanding at what he does. IMO, Scout is better than Rivals in basketball. Or, at least it has been. But when it comes to football, Rivals is hands down the better network IMO.

Rivals is far and away more superior to scout. They make scout look like amateurs.

I thought Rivals had been creeping closer and closer to, maybe even passing, Scout in the past few years, with ESPN in a distant third. Now that Scout loses their best guy to ESPN, we'll see how that changes. I'm assuming Rivals will be the best until Telep makes ESPN get their ***** together. ESPN's rating system is terrible. But ESPN has the resources to be the best if they want to.

RSCI will still be better than any of them, although almost nobody on this site uses it. Odd.

i think scout's rankings were perhaps slightly better than rivals'. although, i though meyer did a fine job, and benefited a lot from the addition of bossi and snow (now, unfortunately gone).

however rivals was much better than scout at providing updates and recruiting news. so, it depends what you value.

it will be interesting to see what happens at espn and scout now. unlike a lot of people, i always thought rankin did a good job. it's just an impossible task for one person to see enough games to really evaluate everyone fairly. actually, i think you need at least three. but two is certainly much better than one.

You know exactly why we don't use it. Most players we get are not consensus top 100 players so they aren't even listed in the RSCI. Stop playing dumb.

if I ran a recruiting site, I'd scrap the 1-100/150 systems and just use tiers.

Tier 1: NBA talents
Tier 2: high majors
Tier 3: Mid majors
Tier 4: everyone else

I like to use my own version for ISU recruits, which is much more "conservative"
Tier I: 1-dones, elite offers, McD's AA, consensus top50 (major sites)
(Fizer, Brackins...and arguably White, but no one else in ISU history, I believe)

Tier 2: Multiple listers (mentioned on both rivals, scout, espn), several BCS offers
(Also few ISU recruits here - we've had very few who appear on both scout/rivals top 100)

Tier 3: One-listers, a collection of random offers. (Majority of "good" ISU recruits are in this bucket).

Tier 4: Everyone else. (Plenty of ISU recruits in here)
