Recruiting Needs Being Addressed

Bump.

After today I feel that we need:
1. O-line help. We have weapons at WR and RB next year. Need some more OL options to open holes and protect the QB.
2. Quarterback who has a "no-lose" do whatever it takes, really vocal and a strong leader mentality with obviously the talent to back that up.
3. D-linemen who can get some pressure on the QB w/out ISU having to blitz
4. New D. Coordinator. If not a coordinator, at least a new philosophy.

What do y'all think seriously? I'm no expert so don't kill me on these. Just wonder what other folks' opinions are after the last game what everybody hopes we see on the recruiting trail with some new hopeful commits.
In all seriousness it would take at least 10 JUCO's that panned out to even win 5 games next year. The talent gap is that bad.

I want to see a "Bryce Petty" pro-style type QB. Now before you say that ISU can't get a guy like that, he was only like a 3 star out of high school. I want a taller QB who can see the field better and has a strong arm, but also athletic enough to make plays on the ground when he needs to. I am kind of losing interest in the "dual-threat." Get a guy who is accurate and has a strong enough arm to make the bullet pass to the WR for the screen (like Petty) or drop it in the back of the end zone. Then just focus on an O-Line to protect him for 3 seconds. That would be on my Cyclone Christmas list:)

I didn't see enough of today's game to make a good judgement on Sam's play. I've always thought most of the offensive issues were on the line.

I think a JUCO lineman or two will be okay, but I'm hopeful year two with Blaney will be a lot better.

Defensive line is where to go after guys, which the staff is. After that I'd say a cornerback who can compete to play and maybe an outside linebacker.

Sam does not take shots down the field and extend the defense. For whatever reason, we do not extend the field and the defense jumps our routes. That is not good and a big part of our problems.

We are hitting the Juco's for all those needs you listed.

He does not throw a decent deep ball. So Mark does not call that play. He settles for a one yard run in his playcalling. Start there.

People are delusional if they think that a 4-5 JUCO transfers are going to make a team that routinely loses by 30-40-50 points that much better. Before we start making bowl plans next year lets start playing withing 2-3 td's of our opponents.

See now you are just being a baby. No, not now. As usual.

Talent gap with teams like Baylor, TCU and OU? Yes. Others, it's not what you claim it to be.

The point is.........that we will sign the players needed IMO. Time to get positive...........instead of constantly negative.

After 5-19 the past two years, perhaps the coaching staff should do something on the field that causes us to be positive, instead of Rhoads apologists demanding us to not be constantly negative.

Unless these JUCO transfers fix what is an abysmal offensive and defensive line, you can forget about JUCO transfers helping out much.

I'm dead serious.
OL-Farniok gone. Need 2-3 contributors, to at least get stale mates with DL.
QB-Need one
RB-Need one
WR-probably ok
TE-need one
DL-need 3
LB-need 2
DB-need 2-3
That is about 10-11 players that would have to pan out. That is what we need to be competitive IMO. Even with that we would still lack depth. I do think that Sam would be an adequate backup at many schools but he cannot succeed here with the personnel. If we have a chance to add a JUCO QB I say do it.

Personally, I feel better about next year than I did 2 months ago, but we do need to see results on the field. This isn't about being a bad fan or negative, but wanting the best for my team. I think Rhoads could get us out of this mess, but I do want to see accountability and not spin.

Why do you think next year will be better?

Why do you think next year will be better?

Nothing really rational. I think it's more that it's a fresh start. It also might be that I pretty much checked out on this season for the most part a little while back. Rhoads will be here either way it looks like, so let's hope for the best. Not expecting a great year next year, but I'm willing to see what happens more than I was a couple months ago.

As far as exciting news, as I've said, we need to see it on the field. I'm not getting overly excited going into the year. Feels like the boy who cried wolf.

Richardson is God awful. Throws behind receivers, too inconsistent, weak arm.
The OL can't cover up garbage QB play. Richardson has been one of the major problems all season and will continue to be next year.

I feel better about next year as well. Close losses to Texas, KSU, TTech, WVU, and should never have lost to Kansas and NDSU. Testicular fortitude to pull those out and this was a 7 win season at least. Hopefully the boys become men this off season that were freshman and sophomores this season and they can make it happen next year.

He's certainly not Seneca Wallace but I think Sam is better than any QB we have had since CPR hasbeen here. I really mean that. His numbers may not look great because of the teams he's been on, but he has more ability than Arnaud by a long shot. I guess Steele was ok at times. That doesn't mean I think Sam would be more than a backup anywhere else though!

I want to know why it seems 90% of the players on the field are playing hurt. How may WR missed time with injuries? RBs? QB should have been out more with his injury as well. OL? DL? LB? DB? Seems like we have a ton of injuries every year. Is this strength and conditioning or just bad luck?

Everybody has them, not just us. Other teams just have this thing called depth.

I get around
He can't say much because the info comes from a pay board.

2 BIG needs have said they plan to sign with ISU. No announcement of committment because they still plan to take another visit or 2.

I do find it funny that the same group of people saying the staff needs to sign all these JUCOs, comes into a thread hinting at signing JUCOs and acts like its not going to help anything.

Any idea when the visits will be over and the commitments announced?

No. We get a commit from a Juco lineman that has a mean streak and is planned to be a Center, and it is met with negative comments that he does not have enough offers. We could win 10 games next year and the whiners will respond that it is only a matter of time before we head back down and that CPR won with "Mangino's recruits". It is a never ending circle.

Sign nobody, or sign everybody the staff covets. Couldn't care less unless and until it shows up on game day it's just bluster and BS.

Fool me once shame on you. But we're 5-6 times down that same road with the hype machine MOSTLY by some "informed" posters. Again - it's all BS and has been proven wrong WAY too many times for this line of "reason" to have any credibility. But maybe just this once it turns out to be true and you will be vindicated.

Well, we lost 3 recent juco commits who all seemed like good prospects. All 3 lost to conference rivals. So let's see where it goes from here. Best thing we can do is figure out who Snyder is recruiting and put the full court press on them. He knows which jucos to recruit. SR has done some good things but there's no reason why Jake Waters was not recruited by ISU, being a legacy and an in-state kid. Not sure if he was even offered.

Waters was not offered after putting up huge numbers and winning national title at IWCC. WR Deon Long should have been offered as well.
