Just blow up the Big XII and get everybody split among the other 4 leagues.

The magic number is 64 and with one odd team out (Baylor picked a really bad time to have a rape scandal, in my scenario they are the odd team out)

Iowa State, Kansas, Texas and Texas Tech to the Big 10, which gets to 18 members and has the financial capability to support a league that big.

Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, and Kansas State to the SEC, which also has the financial capability to support 18.

West Virginia to the ACC which then gets its network and has 15 (plus Notre Dame for everything except football)

The magic number of 64 is attained. Everybody is better off financially and there is (some) geographic sense.

Midwest Region would be a snoozefest and everyone would call it the worst division. Plus those are the schools with the least amount of money but have to travel the most.
Alternately,
North: BC, Cuse, Pitt, WVU, UVA, VaTech
East: Wake, UNC, Duke, NC St, Clemson, Ga Tech
South: FSU, Miami, UT, TTU, TCU, BU
Midwest: OU, Okie St, KU, KSU, ISU, Louisville

If Chip Brown is reporting then Texas officials wanted this story out.

True or false.

This article seemed to be a UT journalist's support of UT in its attempt to determine the outcome of the meeting before it even happens!

It certainly puts everyone else on notice, so that if anyone says anything else happens during the meeting, they are siding against UT.

Nicely played. This is college athletics hardball!

If you're getting the cash cow that is Texas, and have academic standards, it's kind of what you're stuck with. None of those three are a drain on the conference. The Big Ten would love UT and OU, but I can't imagine OU signing up to be with Texas again.

Also, K-State should be thanking their lucky stars that Baylor has issues right now. They were going to be the odd team out with their JUCO level academics.

There are supposedly 64 seats at the table for what most people feel is an inevitable 4 conference format. There are currently 64 power conference teams.

Why the hell would you want to elevate anyone else.

14 ACC
14 Big 10
10 Big 12
12 Pac 12
14 SEC
1 ND

There are 65, its like a school yard game, teams are almost picked and there are 2 teams left over, ISU and probably KSU, not a good situation.

Best thing that could happen to ISU is the death penalty for Baylor.
Well that and actually be viable in football for once in a century

Just saying your pretty fantastical scenario is predicated on Delany and the SEC sitting down at a table and playing nicey in terms of divvying up schools. Not a chance. The B1G would go after their jugular and they ours. If Texas were to join the B1G there's no chance they'd take Tech. If this ever happened I'd be in favor of ISU to the B1G but doubt Delany would. He wants big dogs and if the Big 12 were to break up there'd be plenty to pick from. Tech isn't an AAU school anyway so in an 18-team set up that standard would have to soften since so few Big 12 programs are in the AAU.

Small private schools with 35,000 seat stadiums and poor teams are in more danger than ISU and KSU. We're probably in less danger than KSU due to academics and size of the university/fanbase.

I'm fine with no expansion in the current "market". Just adding two of the available teams doesn't solidify the big 12, even if it may slightly increase money.

ND isn't affiliated for football nor will they ever and that's all that matters, therefore it's 64.

Well another kick to the groin! I seem to remember Delaney chastising Iowa for not advocating the Clones go to the B1G when the ruckus started last time. No matter - if the ACC does not fracture then Big 12 is doomed and ISU will be in the MAC as we have no TV draw. The SEC/ACC/B1G will protect their brethren - the Big 12 will knife each other in the back. If you think differently then you are living in fantasy land. I hate TexAss and hate the Huskers and Sooners for inviting them in when SWC went down. Wish Warren Buffett would be our sugar grampa and fund us to go indy! Screw these a-wipes as I cannot take another minute of this eggshell dancing!

If it came down to ISU and KSU as last ones to get picked, I like ISU's chances.

Larger fanbase
Larger University: KSU - 24,146. ISU - 36,001.
Larger TV market: Topeka is the 135th media market with 170,000 TV's. DM/Ames is the 72nd media market with 426,000 TV's.
Larger Stadium: KSU - 53,000. ISU - 61,500
ISU is a member of the AAU.
KSU is one notch above a JUCO.

Ahhhh Chip Brown. I remember him being on the cutting edge at the very beginning of realignment. His reporting seemed like gospel for a while. Once things started to pick up he was correct on his reporting few and far between. I'll click and read his content because it's entertaining I just take it with a grain of salt.

Gotta disagree with you.

There are 65 P5 footballs schools, if it came down to 4 conferences that is 16 per conference, 2 8 team divisions.

College playoffs will expand to 8, there will be invitations to the 8 division winners, and instead of conference championship games we go to quarterfinal playoff games.

Somebody will get left out and it will not be Notre Dame

65 is an absolutely ugly number when it comes to building 4 conferences.

What if they went to 72 and eight 9 team divisions? Right now you have 65 teams with P5+ND, then add some combination of BYU, UConn, Cinci, Memphis, USF, UCF, Houston, the service academies(probably not), New Mexico, CSU, Boise, etc to round out the 72 teams. Im not sure if the value added by the 7 teams would be massive but splitting a pie 64 ways vs 72 ways isnt that big of a difference.
