That wouldn't stand up in court. They'd be allowed out of the contract on intent alone. Any discussion of restructuring with it actually happening will, imo, allow TX and OK the legal window they need to get out.

Why would it? So the court is going to tell the remaining conference members that they cannot make any future plans for what happens in 2025, but OU and UT can already have it set up? That's ridiculous.

Exactly. That's why TX and OK will lose in court. But, you do make a good point: they will be informing all B12 members within 12 hours (publicly posting it is informing) so they're not breaking any by-laws. With that in mind, I'm now seeing your perspective. Could get even more interesting if contract negotiations start up and TX/OK reverse their minds. This is getting interesting.

You know, I actually don't think UT is capable of wrecking the SEC like they have every other conference. I think they are finally in a conference that is big and strong enough that UT really doesn't matter. When they get tired of being the league punching bag and decide to pack up and go home, the rest of the league will just shrug and continue on. UT has possibly succeeded in making the largest athletic department in the country irrelevant.
Your reasoning is 100% sound and I agree, but if any school could wreck havoc on the $EC, it’s the Loserhorns.

Not exactly sure.

The conference is talking not individually also.

One would think that anything setup to start after the GOR expires would be fair game.

Yep. "We intend to fully adhere to the current conference structure until the agreement is up". The difference is that UT and OU want out now, and with a future plan secured, the remaining members would be perfectly content to wait it out.

I really doubt they agree to come past the last week of October. But that said, Texas and their gigantic egos are coming in November so who knows.
I don't know. They'd deal with it if it happened occasionally. It'd be worse if they joined the BIG.

Maybe we just keep the agreement a secret for a couple of years, like they did with their talks between themselves and the SEC.

There is 0% chance you are a lawyer based on this. Of course the 8 can say this is what we will do effective 7/1/25, without damaging the existing contract.

There will be no court case. There will be a settlement. Everything is frozen until a settlement is reached, because if any of the Abandoned 8 teams try anything else, OU-UT get off more cheaply (or scot free). As long as there is the chance the A8 are looking at a funding deficit going forward, they are going to keep all the leverage they have in OU-UT. And other conferences have no reason to jump in ahead of it, anyway. Plenty of time.

Mostly wild speculation on what follows from all this.

Most would like us in the B1G, though may be a long shot.

PAC-12 expanded seems to be a good plan B.

The next commonly thrown out option is a reconstituted Big 12. Most agree that there’d be a drop in money/prestige.

There’s been talk of what the end game may look like (ie super conferences, with varying ideas of who would be included).

There’s also been plenty of ongoing speculation on the details of the exit (ESPN pulling strings) and the possible legal repercussions of that.

That should about catch you up.
