Isn't UT and OU still required to pay their penalty for negotiating with the SEC and not notifying the conference in the required 12 hours? I can't remember the penalty, but that's significant.
I would imagine that the threat of a penalty will be left hanging to be used as additional leverage in the exit negotiations.

Seems like there's no gray area there. They did it and the evidence is conclusive They should owe the entire amount. What would they (UT OU) potentially be giving up in exchange for negotiating that down?

I can see gaining traction more than a merger between the Big 10 and 4 to 6 Pac 12 schools. First if we merge with them, no one gets left out of the mix, is has to be a huge selling point for the Wash. St and Or. St. of the conference.
Same deal with our conference, if WV can get an invite to the ACC or another league, then have at it, same for all the other conference teams.
Last if we use the pod system or divide the league into an East/West setup, that would cut down the trips that each member school has to fly to the coast, thereby saving them all money.
The problem that I see for the Big 10/Pac 12 merger or school grab is what is the point if they only grab 2 to get to 16, are those two schools going to want to fly to the central and eastern time zone for half their games? It will work for UT and OU because the schools are close, but no way it will work for USC, Washington and Oregon.

So if the rumor of WVU being potentially out of this, that would leave an odd number: 7+12 =19. So would the idea be Baylor is also on the outside looking in so it ends up being an 18 school deal?
Or maybe Baylor and WVU stay in the conference alliance until the end of GOR in 2025, but then find new homes at that point? Hopefully WVU can get into the ACC. Baylor... whatever...

A merger is a bad idea because it would involve Olympic sports.
Limit this to an alignment of football and MBB, plus the PAC12 Network. Let the other sports remain in their current conference setup. We cannot afford to send the volleyball team to Pullman or WBB to Corvallis.
A merger would also deform the B12. Thus, Texas/OU would walk scot-free.

This is all about football. Not even basketball will save programs like Kansas. Sorry, Olympic sports.
This merger will only happen after Texas/OU do NOT walk scot-free.
Just have the olympic sports play most of their schedule within their division or POD. That would leave travel mostly unchanged for Pac or B12 schools as they will be grouped with their former members in the new conference.
