He earned a lot of goodwill his first season by finishing above .500 with a bowl win. Since then, he's 20-31 overall and 11-24 in the B12. The last two years, with a roster consisting of only his recruits, have been borderline terrible. That's what bothers me. It appears we've gotten worse every year after his first season. That's unacceptable... period.

I know its not a real possibility to fire rhoads for a while. is it an option to demote rhoads to another position give mangino a little raise and be the interim HC, with the promise of being the real head coach when its affordable enough to can rhoads. I know the offensive play calling wasn't stellar in week one. but I have way more confidence in mangino then I do in rhoads.

It's more likely they'd fire him.

On paper, that seems like a decent move, but in reality, that'd just be a poisonous environment to try and work in. If you're gonna do that, you can CPR outright and make a clean break.

Hes safe this year. He has a young inexperienced roster with a lot of new coaches. Next year is his make or break.
So many fans said this last year. I'm sure next year we will be young and inexperienced and 2016 will be our make or break year.

Yes, and you heard it here first. JP just announced that Rhoads has stepped down as HC, but will take over as DC. Wally has decided to retire, and get as far away from this train wreck as he can.

The Fat Man will still call all the plays.

I do kinds like how Jamie did this. Still gotta pay Rhoads so why not get something out of him than fire him? And you know it's got to be a load off Paul's shoulders.

Another good move by Jamie.

Why does the "history of Iowa State football" mean that we should be forever content with a ceiling of six wins per year?

Since youre so GD smart, and seem to have all the answers...just what do you propose? Fire Rhoads...and then what? Who the hell are we gonna get to come in? If you think just changing coaches is gonna get you those 6+ wins, you're in for a shock. It's apparent that nobody would have the patience to even wait it out while this new coach builds a system. I hate to lose, but I've been around long enough to know that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. In fact it rarely is. I'm not happy with the state of the program either, but it's ridiculous how many people resort to a knee jerk reaction because they think with their emotions rather than their heads. I won't even go back and resort to calling people out but there are so many posters calling for Rhoads' head, who were supportive of him only days ago. There are so many posters on here that are saying ISU doesn't have the talent yet months ago were saying how our recruiting classes just keep getting better and better. Get a grip people!

I've never seen a fan base lose it so bad after losing a game that they were only a 3.5 point favorite to win.

Sincerely,
Cool Story Bro
Lol, wonder why? Would think it happens after getting butt ****ed by and FCS opponent for the second year in a row and not being at all competitive in the Big 12.

yeah I guess I really didn't think about that. if we do fire CPR I do expect Mangino to be the first person they look at though

Having a young inexperienced roster is his fault. Having a bunch of new coaches is his fault. Why wait a year?

Because you don't fire one of the best coaches you ever had for having to rebuild like every other college has to do. All teams go through down years. We aren't Alabama pulling in 5 star players left and right, and never will be.

I am GD smart, don't have all the answers but DO know the definition of stupid...and ISU has been repeating it for years. What gets old is saying the same things over and over again. I hate to break it to a lot of the "younger" folks on this site but what I'm reading, and some of what I'm saying, has been said for decades. Now, it's on a computer screen instead of over a beer and cigarette.

The "tradition" at ISU is to be ok with mediocrity and not demand more. I want to see that end and for everyone to demand more from a program that COULD be better than what it's shown. Personally, I don't believe Paul to be that guy. It's my opinion. Do I have a substitute? No. But I believe I'm still entitled to my opinion. And I have a firm grip on the situation...we suck.
