This thing is looking worse by the week. I'm assuming Pollard is losing sleep over this albatross.
A few details:
- ~$500k/year raise beginning in 2012. That's $1.5+ million additional pay for a combined record since the raise of 9-17 (5-13).
- For his 9 wins since the raise, he's been paid roughly $400k/win. He made more per win last season than Nick Saban at Alabama.
- Currently in year three of the ten year/$20 million contract extension.
- University owes Rhoads $750,000/year for termination without cause (record, etc.). That's $5.25 million if he's fired after this season. Throw in termination pay for assistants and you're probably looking at something north of $7 million.
- If he's terminated with cause (major violations, criminal acts, etc.) he's due nothing beyond his final month of employment. Perhaps a case could be made that recruiting shortfalls and lack of second half coaching adjustments would fall under these categories.
- He's owed the first of two $300k retention payments next February if he's still the head coach.
- It appears likely he will miss out on the $25,000 incentive for National Coach of the Year honors.
