After reading Blum article thought about what's on the line for coach in terms of cash.
Rhoads' contract finalized, coach will make $1.6 million in 2012 - Iowa State Daily: Football

The performance incentives are:
• $200,000 in any year that the football team wins seven or more regular season games.
• $250,000 each time the football team wins or ties for the Big 12 Conference regular season championship.
• $250,000 each time the football team wins the BCS National Championship game.
• $100,000 each time the football team participates in a postseason bowl game.
• $100,000 each time the football team finishes the year ranked in the top 25 in either the final USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll or the AP Poll. Only one incentive award will be given if the team finishes in Top 25 of both polls.

Lots of incentives on the table for CPR - 1 win for bowl incentive, 2 wins for seven win incentive, 3 wins and a bowl win could get top 25 incentive

I don't see why we don't throw in a $1 million kicker for a BCS championship title. We'd more than make up the difference by being there and the subsequent repercussions (donations, tickets, etc)

I would think the BCS NC would have been $2.5 million

I think its funny he only gets $50,000 more when winning the national title than winning 7 games. Might as well make a championship worth a couple mil.

These are just the automatic incentives. If he made a BCS title game (or won it for that matter), he's going to get his contract redone and he'll get paid whatever he asks for.

But do these incentives stack?

If they do he'll get:

200k for having 7 or more wins (13 wins if he wins the title)
250k for a championship (ISU isnt making a title game without a championship)
250k for winnng the championship game
100k for being in a bowl game (even though its a big one)
100k for being ranked #1

So all together there you're looking at a package of 900k. And this is before contract renegotiation.

Isn't he very generous in personal financial support for the program?

I can't imagine he has even thought about incentives. Once the season is over he will just notice a bump in his paycheck.
