Leath is just the worst. But veishea will be back eventually. A future president will want to "up" his popularity and will bring it back.

That said, will we still have a concert this year? What will we have this year? Anyone have an idea?

A riot about Veisha being cancelled.

Don't get how people can blame Leath. How many chances should VEISHEA get?
Leath is between a rock and a hard place. If he lets things continue the way they are, he's justifying activities such as excessive drinking and rioting.

Personally, I think people who don't like Leath and are currently badmouthing him are simply knee jerk reacting to the Veishea name being retired.

I still think it will be back in an official capacity in 5-10 years. Saying it's permanent right now is just the administration/task force performing a hard sell. Make people actually believe it's gone for good, then bring it back when students on campus have never even heard of it before. That's the only chance VEISHEA has to ever go back to primarily being a celebration of all that is ISU.

Criminal activities took place off of school property. That's not his issue to deal with. People will make their own decisions on how to behave and unless those people were directly employed by ISU or this was on school property I don't see why he should even get involved.

If drinking is really the issue cut out any event that features or could feature alcohol.

It is when it happens on a Tuesday night during Veishea. When, in the history of Iowa State University, has a Tuesday night ever been as bad as that one was?

Given this, I'm shocked and appalled that the riots were associated with ISU and veisha. Unfair!

Ban social media. None of this would have happened if it wasn't for Twitter!

They made the decision that they had to make. It's that simple. Some of you are too blinded by bias that you can't see that. A University as big as Iowa State absolutely can not associate itself with anything that has repeatedly resulted in rioting. Especially when it's their students doing the rioting, and it has become part of the tradition of the particular event being discussed. You add to the fact that a kid was almost killed last year as a result of the rioting and this is what you get. If the University had reinstated VEISHEA there would have been a whole can of worms in terms of potential legal battles in the future that they would have had to worry about.

Think about this...
- It's obvious rioting was becoming a part of VIESHEA
- Had VEISHEA continued and another riot occurred ISU could have absolutely been held accountable for any damages, injuries, or deaths that were the result of it because they knew in advance there was a good chance it could happen and they chose to proceed with the event anyways. There's really very little that can be done in terms of law enforcement to prevent a riot. The only fool proof way to prevent a riot is to eliminate the event.

In today's day and age, when a red flag is waving you had better take notice. That's what they did. They made a hard choice, but it was the right one.
This post is just littered with common sense. Wish I could say the same about the thread as a whole.

In other news they decided to change our name to the Iowa State Tornados... mark me down as a Leath unliker (I dont hate). What has he improved at ISU? Dude bagged Bubu and canned Veisha. I hope he leaves soon.

What has he done?

While I don't blame Leath for the VEISHEA decision, because he really was in between a rock and a hard place, he overall has made some terrible decisions in past couple years. The Bubu fiasco is one thing. I've heard from countless people who work for the university that he fires valuable University employees who have been there for decades with no cause.

Seems like a guy that's on a power trip. He should takes notes from the job Geoffroy did..
