No matter which way you go, don't get the cheapest model. Get one with a decent processor. It makes navigating content so much better.
This. The sticks are going to struggle with live TV. I've had zero issues with the Roku Premiere, Chromecast, or AppleTV (but the AppleTV remote will make you want to punch a baby).

I have had at least 1/2 dozen Roku's over the years. Everyone is right, they are great as long as you don't get the cheapest model. Bought a Firestick once just for comparison purposes and it was crap. To be fair, it was a low end stick also.

I have had an LG 4K Smart TV for about a year and while I love the picture, the 'smart' features are garbage. Missing many apps including ESPN. It also frequently randomly shuts down apps, particularly YouTubeTV. I have added a Roku to it just to get around its crappy 'smart' features.

So true about the “Smart TVs”. I bought a Vizio 4K SmartTV for my garage this year and I HATE it. The price was right and picture is fine (actually…the picture is great especially for the price), but it has to the dumbest, smart tv out there. I might just get a Roku for that one too, as long as I can figure out how to get the Roku remote to control the Vizio soundbar.

I have newest gen Firestick (Power button, volume buttons, Netflix/Disney/Amazon/Hulu buttons), can get them for 20 bucks at times during the year. Zero issues other than the Disney app crashes sometimes but I think it's cuz Disney app just sucks (but has gotten a little better).

Thinking about gluing remote to a 2x4 so the wife/kids stop losing it.

Trick is to have your own remote. Buy an extra and put that away so they can't use it.

Or...better yet. Just have your own TV in your own room.

I have a Vizio TV that the remote doesn't even have a menu button on it. You have to download their app and connect your phone to it to change settings. But it was dirt cheap and has a great picture. With a streaming device and a soundbar, all I really need is a 65" monitor, so it works.

I have read a bunch of reviews anyone have first hand stories? We have lightning fast internet and great router so does it even matter that much? This TV almost exclusively used for ESPN+ watching volleyball.
Easy: Roku.

I have a firestick you (or anyone) can have. PM me your mailing address

we tried Roku first and tossed it in the garbage after three days. Been using the top versions of the Fire Stick since and zero issues with anything.

The garage TV has a FireTV box and the other 4 TVs in the house are all built in Rokus. I like the interface on the Roku much better. We never have issues at all.

It’s a perk that all the remotes are interchangeable with the Roku and when the kids lose all 10 laying around, you still have your phone as a backup.

I had one of the early gen Amazon Firestick. It eventually wore down and started to get clunky, but that could also be because I tried to jailbreak it.

Regardless, switched to chromecast which I really like, and then added a roku to our 2nd tv which I probably like even better. Can't really go wrong IMO, because even the firestick was a fine experience for me, for the most part. The roku certainly takes on the heaviest use in our house though, as in most everyone in my house will use that TV as their first choice.

Don't cheap out and keep somewhat current on your hardware and it doesn't really matter. They'll all do the job, it's just personal preference at that point.

My roku's have been great. They only last 4-5 years before they get laggy, but for $30 I'm more than happy with that lifespan.

I have Roku and Firestick. Both work well but I prefer Roku for the cleaner/simpler interface (but I am old).
