I'm almost a man (nearly 40) so I'm old school in that I have the DVD of it. But new school enough to have ripped it and put it on the kid's tablets. Old school enough that I have actual files rather than streaming.

In any event, my kids will watch this movie all the time. I like it quite a bit, but don't want to listen to it in July.

Luckily we got them bluetooth headphones to go with their tablets last Christmas

It’s the same as radio stations not being allowed to carry college football games on their online stream, even if they have the game over-the-air; streaming/digital rights were sold off separately from broadcast rights, so they belong to two different entities.

I‘ll occasionally come across a movie on TCM that’s the same way - the channel is showing a movie that’s “blacked out” for streaming, so it can’t be shown on TCM via YTTV. Just part of the modern digital-rights world clashing with the old school.

As far as shows like “Rudolph” being appointment television when I was a kid, absolutely - those 1970s holiday seasons it was a big deal to tune in for ‘Rudolph’ or ‘Frosty’ or one of my personal favorites, ‘Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.’ I made a VCR tape with a lot of those shows taped from cable back when my kids were growing up, which I have transferred to DVD. The Claymation Christmas special (with the California Raisins, remember them?) is one that hardly gets shown anymore - classic Carol of the Bells with Quasimodo the conductor, and skating walruses crushing the poor penguins!

(And for ‘Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,’ edits over the years to cram in more commercials and eliminate touchy subjects mean Freeform won’t play the version with Jessica’s crazy animated LSD-trip-style song or Kriss Kringle singing the epic groomer ditty If You Sit On My Lap Today (“a kiss a toy is the price you’ll pay”).

Claymation Christmas is hilarious. Glad to see there are other fans out there, that one really seems to be forgotten with time.

Love all the Rankin Bass movies...

Kinda sad that my son, who is 11, knows the truth about Santa Claus. Just happy it hasn't ruined his overall Christmas spirit. He loves these movies.

You can view the Claymation Christmas at

Anyone remember the animated Christmas special with the mice and the clock and how 1 of the mice almost got Christmas canceled for the whole town? Called "Twas the Night Before Christmas". You can see a version of it at

Just like they added the ending on Rudolph where they pick up the toys from the Island of Misfit Toys. That wasn't in the original. They cut out the scene when Yukon Cornelius finds peppermint

I enjoy the the dark comedic theme of how they originally didn't go back to the Island of misfit toys. And then after some angry letters from outraged citizens, they added the 'drop offs' to the credits.

Head Elf:
Why weren't you at elf practice?

Hermey:
Just fixing these dolls' teeth.

Head Elf:
Just fixing...? Now listen, we have dolls that cry, talk, walk, blink and run a temperature. We don't need any chewing dolls.

I love to drop this quote on the wife as well. But I don't limit it to the holiday season, it is fair game here year round!
I must be doing something wrong. My wife is always telling me ’that‘s a mans job’. She keeps me busy.
