Hope it isn’t a case of our D line being weak.Liked the show of enthusiasm shown yesterday after. OL blew the defense 8 yards off the ball.
This is an underrated take. Physically he is already better, mentally though, theres work to do. Kid never looked comfortable after the Ohio game. No OL meant no time, Brock getting hurt meant not much of a run game, and X being double teamed meant that he was taking a sack or an INT typically. Once we proved we were a 2 man offense, **** hit the fan. Hoping we can develop some more options for him, and hope he has enough time to find themIMO... Dekkers has the potential to be better than Purdy. He has a high ceiling IMO.
A less noticed thing with Jirehl's injury, is he is our best pass-blocking RB. That was another bit of security that Dekkers didn't have last year that would have helped him settle in.This is an underrated take. Absolutely, and it was not close. He was our best by a lot. I was excited to hear that he looks good and is healthy.A less noticed thing with Jirehl's injury, is he is our best pass-blocking RB. Hopefully improvements to the OL and a healthy RB will do wonders for Dekkers. This is an underrated take. Physically he is already better, mentally though, theres work to do. I think midseason it became clear certain members of the staff were failing the players. Joel Gordon's career benefited from having a guy like Brock be a 4 year player, and Brock's career and success was assisted by having a future all pro at RB and a stud TE. Gordon should have been gone years ago, but that is just my opinion. His imperfections as a player developer were masked by an offense full of future NFL players. Having Scheelhase be the guy that works the closest with Dekkers this year will be the best thing for his growth. Looking forward to this yearHopefully improvements to the OL and a healthy RB will do wonders for Dekkers.
I am concerned that mid-way through last season, there were rumblings that the staff wasn't sure Dekkers was the answer at QB. I think he will be fine if we can give him some help, though.
I agree with your comment on mental work to do. Physical tools only do so much for anyone at quarterback. Reading defenses, making decisions, work ethic, leadership, accuracy (related to physical tools, but also skill based), remembering the playbook, having a quick mind, having a short memory while learning from mistakes, overcoming adversity and maintaining mental attitude, dealing with extra pressure, and just having moxie are all traits that are harder to evaluate and identify than measurables. Purdy has most of these in spades, which is why he has been underrated and also why he is having success in the NFL. Not to mention his quick feet and escapability. This is an underrated take. Purdy ran a 4.84 40. Manning ran a 4.88. Quick is not an adjective I would use to describe either QB. Dekkers ran a 4.7. He is faster, can throw farther, is taller, and lighter. Am i missing something? Why do we keep saying that Dekkers is physically better than Purdy? He's 15 pounds lighter, not as quick, not as elusive. He can throw the ball further and is an inch taller. That's it. I have high hopes for him this year too but c'mon.

Which wasn’t the point anyone at all was making,One guy has started NFL games. One guy was All Big12.
Not dissing Dekkers, but there is more to being a solid QB than measurables. Brady and Brees come to mind.

Yep, I remember in high school basketball I had to guard a track guy (sprinter) and at first I was freaked out, but it was no problem, he had great top end speed but was not quick at all (relatively speaking)So he has a ton of giddy-up, but low top speed.
So he's a 94 Honda Civic...?So he has a ton of giddy-up, but low top speed.
Be honest, how many points did he put up?Yep, I remember in high school basketball I had to guard a track guy (sprinter) and at first I was freaked out, but it was no problem, he had great top end speed but was not quick at all (relatively speaking)
