I didn't mean that to be a blanket statement of all coaches, so people need to calm down and take a breath. I thought I was in the cinco de mayo tweet thread for a second with all the offended people. If you've been taught that way or have seen people teaching that way, then good. For years I was involved in youth sports because a good friend was a coach. Up until the last couple of years with the new 'heads up' program, the coaching, for the most part was horrible when it came to form tackling. There are some really good coaches out there, but just like with anything else, there are some terrible ones as well.

That is just flat out not true. I coach youth football and have helped with high school camps in the last 5 years. I've also attended many college practices. The "heads up" movement is everywhere. Tackling from the youngest levels on up is taught to tackle through with your chest with your head up and having the facemask make contact. I played college ball in the late 90's and early 2000's and even then there was a lot of awareness about tackling with your chest. Proper tackling form is something that is worked on every day regardless of what part of the season it is.

My blanket statement is no good, but yours is ok? I was at JUCO practice last year with a friend watching his son. There were two defensive players that basically speared the guy every time they tackled. Not one coach said a word. Like I said before, I didn't mean it as a blanket statement, there are good and bad coaches.

This is true from the pee-wee level on up.
