Backup QB might be one of the better jobs to have. No pressure, no physical abuse and pretty decent paychecks. With his experience it might be nice to find a coaching position to help with QB development.

Sage and Seneca both have lasted 10 years

The NFL requires teams to pay a larger minimum $$$ contract for 10-yr vets, which is why they both were in limbo last season, and someone who's far less talented--Ricky Stanzi, clung to a 3rd-teamer spot with KC. NFL teams don't want to pay anything for a backup, and don't want to pay more $$ based on tenure in the league

Anybody know what Coach Rhoads or Coach Messingham think about him? Have they ever had him come in to practice to work with players? Or brought him into the locker room to give inspiration?

Seems like the more they have already used him, the more likely we can get him as a coach. However, he probably will need to go somewhere else first and prove himself.

I would think that position coaches require much less experience than head coaches or assistant coaches. Just the time on the sidelines and film room should prepare him on how to teach the position.

I know that one weekend last fall, Sage hung around with Jamie a lot, and spent some time in the broadcast booth. That help?

Remember that CPR passed on Ellis Hobbs as a position coach, apparently because if his lack of coaching experience, and hired Troy Douglas instead.

Problem with hiring nfl vets as position coaches is that those jobs require a lot of travel recruiting and most guys with long nfl careers and money in the bank just don't want to do it. I have no doubt that Sage could coach our qbs better than they're getting coached now. We haven't had a good QB coach since tony Peterson.

Let's hope Sage's talk with Jamie last summer went like CFH's when McDermott was hired. Basically a set up to get the right experience and come back when the time is right. For example go work at another program that is running the pistol learn and bring that experience. He could bring the next infusion of awesome to CPRs burgeoning offense. More cool aid please.

Sage's retirement announcement on Facebook was very well written and from the heart. He and Seneca both had long and successful careers, are great examples of Cyclone talent and character, and would be great additions to our coaching staff in some capacity.

As a side bar, Sage gave a very large donation / self funded large improvements and additions to Maquoketa High School. Very Generous well educated man.
