As with any situation, there is quite a bit of blame to pass around. At the end of the day, the buck stops at the HC's office as they are ultimately responsible for the program as they are also the ones that are accountable for the results (both good and bad). Doing a little digging looking for the point(s) where we got off course and I keep coming back to Herman leaving. While our overall results weren't stellar by any stretch while he was here (they were still pretty good by our standards), take a look at all that did get accomplished. Sam came in towards the end of that, and Herman left for tOSU, and we have never been the same since (esp. offensively). Consider this the "ripple" from the stone being thrown in the lake. Still dealing with it to this day.

C'mon people, we have to be smarter than this. It ALL falls on Rhoads' shoulders. That is why he gets paid 2 million a year.

What if Rhoads had recruited me out of high school to play QB at ISU? I'm a terrible football player and can't throw a football worth a crap.

And then Rhoads decides to start me, and all we do is lose. You guys would say that's MY fault that we're losing and not Rhoads.

I would say it's Rhoads' fault for recruiting me in the first place, and not making me get any better, and not recruiting and developing someone else better to replace me with.

Sam is trying his hardest. It's the coaches job to make him get better or replace him with someone better that can win.

So you are saying Paul is paid a million dollars a win? He should try harder.

People are mad he hasn't gotten any better since his first year.

Kind of hard to get better under this staff.

Look at Netten. He was a much better kicker in HS and his first two years than he is now.
SR may be worse than last year. Last year he could rush. Same for Cole. Too much pressure to win more than two games?

If Rhoads can't see that Richardson is holding us back after watching this game, then he is going down with the ship. I suppose I can respect that.

I have been a big supporter of Richardson but he is regressing and I'm not sure if its coaching or himself not being able to handle pressure.

This is me as well. I can understand him being less confident because of the line not giving him time. But the line has been doing fairly decent the last couple weeks. His confidence should be ok. If it isn't as a 5th year senior, he doesn't need to be in there. Also the some of throws that he made yesterday, were not throws a 5th year senior D1 qb should miss.

I think it is coaching, which is why I don't think moving to Lanning would change much. And I don't want Rhoads to have a shot at mind-******* another QB.

My guess is pressure. When we were down 10-0, he did not look like he had great body language.

I feel sad for Richardson, as well as all the other offensive skills players at ISU. The coaching staff has no idea how to develop those players. Pretty much every QB under Rhoads has stagnated or regressed.

This is the common denominator. The coaching staff has failed to develop players over their tenure at ISU. If we are going to be successful, we have to recruit players and develop them, we are rarely going to get players who are ready to play at the D1 level right out of high school. The lack of development has been the problem. Part of the reason why Kansas State is as successful as they are is because they develop their players and are fundamentally sound.

Typically, who makes the decision on playing time at QB. Is it the HC or OC.

Can the OC decide to start somebody new at tackle, but only the HC decides who starts at QB.

The talent level between the two teams is very similar in nearly every area. In RB's, Iowa State arguably has the edge. in WR's, given their three injuries, Iowa State probably still has an advantage. The OLine probably favors Tech, but Sam hasn't been running for his life. Defensively, both teams are pretty awful.

Sam Richardson isn't 'the guy' to make Iowa State win 8 games and win a bowl game. Neither are Grant or Joel. If they were 'the guy,' they'd be playing. Even our coaching staff isn't that inept. Iowa State has had success (recently) when we've had outstanding quarterback play. Sage Rosenfels, Seneca Wallace. They are both players who had long careers (albeit as backups) in the NFL. We aren't going to win 8 games until we have a quarterback who can make up for deficiencies elsewhere on the team.

Did you refer to Sage & Seneca as recent?

I feel we need a change at QB. It no longer a question of who is the best QB, but who gives ISU the best chance to win. Rohach has won more Big12 games than SR, in far fewer starts.

TCU is a great offensive team, but watching them against TT & KSU, their defense isn't very good. IMO Lannings physical running style might give ISU a better chance of winning. I doubt CPR will anounce to the media if he plans on changing QB's, but I gotta believe Lanning is going to get more 1st team snaps this week. I could see the staff giving Sam the first quarter against TCU, if the the offense struggles, then Lanning comes in

I have supported Sam up to the game yesterday. But it's evident that he can't make the easy throws that a D1 qb should be able to make. I have no clue what's going on at practice, but I seriously think that the qb spot needs to be opened up to a competition.

Agree. Sam must one hell of a practice player. Time to start sharing minutes, what do we have to lose? And for those that say Rohach will not see the field, what is the background on this?

Richardson is playing horribly right now, but we've seen him play a lot of good football.

Just like Steele Jantz and Jared Barnett. All of these guys were capable of being Big 12 QBs and all of them got worse over time. That is a trend, and there is a common factor with all of those guys. The head coach.

K-State wins games with mediocre QBs all the time. Coaching.

Ames is becoming the place where QBs come to die...

That might be too late.
