With Big 12 after dark it'll be tough for me to even think about SNL.

SNL has always been my Sunday morning comic strip. In the 90s I’d vhs record and watch on sunday mornings with donuts and family. I think the whole thing has been on YouTube Sunday mornings for over a decade now. I’d fast forward through most musical guests and commercials if I was positive it wasn’t a joke commercial.

Usually I’d just record over the tape but every once in a while there was something like Farley Chippendales where I’d have to keep it and start a new tape.

It's brutal to watch live anymore, and if you're not watching it live you might as well just pull up youtube, watch weekend update and the one or two skits that were good.

The Bargatze skit where he's GW in the revolutionary war talking about the country they'll create was pretty funny.

SNL is still a badge of honor for writers. If you can churn out anything remotely funny with those ridiculous work conditions, you can succeed almost anywhere in Hollywood.

"scamdemic" was literally one of the first words out of his mouth. At least make it funny, it was more or less him b*tching.

Yeah, it was an interesting atmosphere when Schneider was announced. I don't think anyone around us reacted but clearly there were people in the arena who were ecstatic to see him. "Scamdemic" got an overly enthusiastic response from maybe 30% of the crowd ... it felt like a neutral site basketball game moment where half the crowd goes nuts at the buzzer beater. He must have sensed the tension in the room though, because he really didn't lean as hard into the political jokes as I thought he would.

The rest of the performance was fantastic. Maybe the first quarter of Sandler's set felt a little off, but he seemed to finally warm up to the crowd and finished well.

I disagreed because I love watching it live. Some of my all time favorite skits have come in the recent years.

The revolutionary war skit was amazing

People always say that though, comparing 90s to Belushi and company.

SNL was great at it's beginning through the 80's and into the very early 90's. It had a decent second wind with Farley, Sandler, Ferrel etc.. Now I'm getting too old to watch live. I did love the GW skit a couple of weeks ago.

I'm spoiled from streaming, watching something with that many commercial breaks drives me insane.
Agree, and honestly, SNL's thing has always been that random skit that is just absolutely classic. That often doesn't even happen once a show, but the compilation of all those made it great, and the frequency of the skits that nail it makes a cast great.

That's a tough environment when you can just skip all the ones that don't make a buzz and just watch the ones that do.

And if you go back and watch even some of the classics, it's not like they got a great response from the crowd. Some of them are super awkward because they didn't hit right or aren't as funny as they're remembered.

I don't watch it now but some of their recent stuff pops up for suggestions on Youtube and some of their actual filmed/edited mock commercials are really, really good.

I'm glad those of you who went enjoyed the show. Sandler is kind of in that Jim Carey realm of comedy that was really good at the time but hasn't really aged well for me. I'm just not sure I find his schtick that funny any more.

He's still really goofy but not like Billy Madison Goofy. Sandler is just flat out funny. Even when he's trying to sound serious it comes out funny.

We watched some of the first seasons that had Steve Martin as the host. A lot of them were pretty non funny. His standup was a little rough at times too. SNL has always been about the same. It’s more just personal preference to when it was ‘awesome’.

Usually the pinnacle of SNL is whenever you were between 12-20.
