Humber has had 1 year above AAA. It was the year after Tommy John surgury and he still led the league in WHIP, was 4th in K's (and only 19th in IP) and 10th in ERA which was well below the league average. He did pretty darn good in AAA if you ask me.

humber will never be any more than a #3 which is definitely not worth Santana. They should have taken the yankees deal and got hughes as he will most likely be a 1 or a 2.
What a steal for my mets. I would have never thought they had a chance with the prospects we have. I just wonder how much cash were gonna have to pay him.

Blackburn, Duensing, Humber is possible, Guerrier is possible too he had one start in 2006 after Liriano and Radke went down, possible a fa veteran. Overall pitching is not a concern still should be in the top half of the league in terms of era, the reason they may go out and sign someone is the Twins love having a veteran or two around.
Guerrier won't start. He's in the bullpen for good. It'll most likely be Baker, Liriano (might not start the season in the rotation though due to building up his arm strength), BOOF, Slowey, then it'll be Perkins, Humber, Blackburn, or anybody else invited to spring training. Hopefully the Twins trade a couple of their surpluss of young pitchers for a vetran arm. When Baker and Boof are the vetrans on the staff there will be a lot of growing pains. This team will still be exciting.
Yeah I didn't consider Guerrier all that likely but if everyone else really sucks it up I could see him getting a shot, more of a last resort though. I forgot about Perkins too, just with all the injuries he's had I think he'll eventually have to be switched to the bullpen too but actually I'd say Perkins and Blackburn should be the favorites for the 5th spot, and for 5th starters I think they both should do a decent job.
Is it just me or is anyone else the least bit upset that Santana is gone? I'm not really all that mad with the Twins. They actually just spent money on Cuddyer and Morneau and they made a more than fair enough offer to Santana of 4 years for $80 million. I'm kind of upset with Santana. It seems like he was pushing the Twins into a corner and forcing them to do this. He seems like he's coming off as just another greedy baseball player. Whatever happened to the days of the hometown discount like Puckett, Hrbek, and Radke? I'm just a little upset to see Santana gone.
He had great stats in the minors and up until his injury he was doing great in the pros. I think he'll come out of the bullpen but with next years staff he'll still get plenty of innings.
I don't think Santana pushed them into a corner. It was well known that it would come down to this. I don't blame him at all for saying trade me now or else I play this season and become a FA. Pitchers and catchers report in two weeks and this type of deal needs to be done in the off-season for both the player and the teams involved. I can't remember Santana ever coming across as greedy.
As for hometown discounts... I don't agree that players should have to settle for a hometown discount. I just don't buy that a player is greedy for asking for what his services are worth when comparing them to other players. Santana deserves to be the highest paid pitcher at this point in his career. He didn't grow up in MN, he's just pitched here for some time and as a Twins fan I am thankful I was able to be part of that.
If your company offered you less than what you thought you were worth, would you stay because of a 'hometown discount'? I doubt it.
It's just too bad that with the economics of baseball it is essentially impossible for any team other than maybe the top 4 to sign him. the Twins made a good run at him, just too bad wouldn't have traded him back during the winter meetings, gotten jacoby to play center and some good pitching prospects.
$20M a year is hardly a discount. The Twins offered him good money and he didn't take it. It kinda appears that Santana is being greedy, and that makes me a bit disappointed. Although Santana prolly isn't happy with Castillo, Hunter, and Silva gone (and they way they left)...I doubt he feels the organization is very committed to it's players.
(And just for the record, I'm glad they didn't sign Hunter or Silva)
