Big Rec for Last Starfighter and Enemy Mine. Those were two of my staples as a kid, even though they are pretty wooden. But decent storylines to both, could be way better done now.

How about Flash Gordon? The one from the 80s was frankly, supercheesy, at best. But you could redo it, make it legitimate, yet still keep it a little tongue in cheek and have fun with it. Maybe a GOTG kind of feel.
I'd love to see a new Flash Gordon movie, but I would hope it has no association with the De Laurentiis production from the 80s. That movie is a cult classic, and doesn't need an update. I'd prefer just a plain reboot, like they do with Spider-Man and The Hulk every few years.

Ridley Scott isn't doing his legacy any favors by trying to "solve" the riddles of his early films. Just as Prometheus < Alien, I predict Bladerunner 2049 <<< Bladerunner (director's cut).

Id like to see where hes taking Prometheus/Alien before I completely write it off. I thought Prometheus was a well done movie in suspense and general scifi weirdness. The acting was well done too. Obviously the plot holes and a little bit of incoherence was what really put everyone off on it, but hopefully the writers are improved on the next go around. I definitely didnt lose interest in that universe from Prometheus' failings. There was enough good stuff to keep my curiosity.

Agree. I loved Prometheus, even more so due to all the possibilities that it opened up within that Aliens universe.

I always thought it was tongue in cheek to begin with, which gave it its charm.

Not really a remake, but would love to see a Harry Potter series focused on when Harry's parents/Snape were kids ect....and/or Voldemorts rise to power.

Also would love to see a remake of Never Ending Story.

While I'm not generally a fan of remakes, I think they could look at a lot of the Sci Fi movies from the 50's. There were a ton made on shoestring budgets. IE: The Fly and The Thing.

Funny thing is, those two movies still hold up. Even more so The Thing. I can watch that movie for the 3000th time and it still weirds me out.

Edit:the 82 version

The Fly and The Thing are two outstanding remakes of 50's Sci Fi which is why I brought them up. There is a ton of source material that could use an update. But I guess you could also classify them as horror as well. Kind of like Alien. Sci Fi horror.
Of course they blew it when they remade The Day the Earth Stood Still

I didnt mind the recent Thing, but something about that old Carpenter camera look makes me more uneasy.

Totally agree.

And I think there is a stark difference between Alien and Bladerunner. The space jockey from Alien always had us wondering what happened to him. And by it's nature the Alien is trying to expand it's territory which sets up well for sequels and prequels (whether or not they're done well is up to the creative team). Bladerunner is a lot deeper story, it's about what it means to be a human person. Also, imo Bladerunner was more artistic than Alien (yes I know H.R. Geiger would disagree). Anyway, I think Bladerunner is much more a singular unit. It's about more than Deckard chasing replicants plus there's the whole "Is Deckard a replicant himself" question which is best left unanswered. I see no way that Bladerunner can be improved and no way a sequel could satisfy fans.

Could do the planned but canceled sequels to The Last Airbender and The Golden Compass. Not good stuff but fits into my "bad scifi (or fantasy) is better than no scifi at all" mantra. And who doesn't like an armoured-bear character voiced by Ian McKellen even if in a not good film?

The Carpenter one is what I am talking about. The most recent one is a prequel to the Carpenter movie. In fact I had pretty much forgotten it existed until you mentioned it.

They marketed Golden Compass terribly and the Last Airbender was just not good. I dont know how you revive GC, I dont think enough people cared the 1st time around. It wasnt a bad movie, but there just isnt the following and not enough to create one from the last release.
