Year 3 begins and the process continues...This is not the ISU of old(thankfully) but that little spot in my brain will make me sweat bullets until the clock reaches zero this Saturday and ISU has won.

SDSU lost stud WR, stud TE, and multi year RB along with all conf Fullback and their best OLman. They return a very solid QB. I think Heacock runs the 4-3 all night and dares SDSU to throw over the top sitting our corners in man coverage most of the night. Taryn(QB) i can see getting yards scrambling a lot and designed QB draws in this game. I..along wiht prob every ISU fan...is very pumped to see this Dline in 2018, they are going to be darn good this year IMO. If we shut down their run game early i think we walk away in this game. I can see SDSU trying to get creative running the ball along with a short passing game early.

On the other side of the ball...traditionally SDSU lately hasnt had a very good D really. They ranked like 50th in FCS last year. They do return a lot in the back 7 but i believe has some ?’s on their D line as well. I’m pretty sure we will see SDSU putting 6-7 in box early to shut down our run game as well...however ISU simply has too many weapons at WR and TE and I hope to see us mix it up early in pass/run game..I still want to see this OL exert its will in this game and if it doesnt that will worry me..

I know one thing...it is never really a good thing if your team is breaking in several new lineman on both sides to start the season. I see this game actually going pretty fast clock wise as both teams will run the ball a fair amount..I could see this game being one where we look up at the clock and its like 10-0 or something ISU and there is like 5 min left in the half.

Not really here to predict a score just curious as to what others think.

I actually think that they might run more 3-3-5 just because the staff isn't too concerned with their run game. Christion is their big threat, but he is prone to throwing picks, so make him throw into tight windows. And keep a spy on him to prevent QB runs.

I actually have dialed my expectations back. The progress in the program is profound. I don’t mind a step back if the foundation gets stronger. I want to build for the future. No need to rush to failure. That said let’s rip 2018! I say this understanding it may sound weak, this is the first time I believe in the staff this much. They have earned my belief.

agree a lot with what the OP says, but I don't think we use man coverage as much as he thinks. As mentioned later... 3-3-5. Lots of zone, play close, and keep pressure on the QB.

As to the O ..... I think we will see 150 yards out of M, and off the field sometime in the fourth.

I like the OP’s analysis. Another speculation: with our experienced OLBs and DE talent/depth (in addition to interior strength) going against their experienced QB, I think our 4-man front Memphis package might be pretty effective. AIR, we blitzed or delay blitzed a lot in the bowl game and effectively shut down a high powered offense for most of the game. As already mentioned, SDSU lost some key offensive weapons, including two AA, NFL camp receivers, who their QB may miss greatly. Make him throw (or scramble) and see what happens. He might have some effect scrambling, but a good spy should cut that down.

Offensively I expect we will start with a run-pass mix with the coaches wanting to run more, but the OL possibly needing some series to establish their run blocking.

I am excited to have Nwangwu returning KOs again and hope for a big return on the Rabbit’s first kick, but the new rules might effect that.

Wonder if they could also mix it up to run 4 and blitz a lot to keep him uncomfortable.

I think ISU tries to establish the run early and often. If they're successful that's a good confidence builder.

Something I've liked is that even though they weren't good at getting much push last year, IIRC they still tried to run early in sets of downs. If nothing else, opponents had to prepare for it.

I hope our PK gets a lot of shots off. Kinda concerned about new kickers at every position (P, PK, KO). But want our PK to get a lot of game experience thinking it will help with experience and prep for season.

Shouldn't you be hoping that our PK gets minimal playing time? A PK getting a lot of playing time against a FCS would not be a good thing, in the big picture.

"We're gonna go inside, we're gonna go outside, inside and outside. We're gonna get 'em on the run boys and once we get 'em on the run we're gonna keep 'em on the run. And then we're gonna go go go go go go and we're not gonna stop til we get across that goal line!"

We have superior athletes at almost all positions and a coaching staff that will have them ready.
We'll cover the spread- Cyclones 34- pesky rabbits 13.
