I couldn't help but be really disappointed after the SDSU dual. I was pissed off but wanted to let a few days go by before posting. Here's my observations:
  1. We looked sluggish in both duals. Until last Sunday I thought our condition was good. Conditioning doesn't really change in a week so I hope it was due to our first road trip, making weight in the hotel, etc.
  2. Parker needs to find the next level similar to what Nate Gallick did his senior year. Need performance out of him like its a traditional year and he's done in March.
  3. Great to have Degen back.
  4. We need to find a better option at 65. That is all I need to say here.
  5. Colbray... I probably need to pump the brakes here a little since it was his first match of year but... I was quickly reminded how much his offensive style drives me absolutely crazy. Anybody Colbray is better than always has a chance because keeping it close to the end is so damn easy. I would rather have a young guy in there rippling off shots and getting to his offensive and losing.
  6. I have a huge problem with our top 10 ranked senior HWT going into 2OT with a kid that came into the match with a 3-6 record. WhyTF was this match that close? After losing to Okla State by 1 all I heard was how pissed off Terukina was because he felt he let the team down. How about our senior HWT that beat a scrub just by a decision?!?! Seniors need to step up. Gremmel is nowhere close to the top-tier HWTs right now and at this point I would be ecstatic if he even AA's.

The SDSU match and the OU match were both frustrating for Gremmel. I hope this doesn't become a trend. He needs to get back to his early season form, as much as that sounds ass backwards...

I will agree that Gremmel hasn't been the same Hwt we saw early in the year. Hopefully it is just a minor mid-season slump and we see the savage Grem starting this weekend (tough weekend with 3 ranked guys).

He needs to push the action. When he’s attacking, good things happen. He shouldn’t be in these close matches that rely (albeit this is good) on riding a guy just to win.

I am not sure I follow your "albeit this is good" comment. Pins and tech falls = good. Riding a guy to win = not good. An exception will be made for the 2OT in the national championship of the HWT match.

Just a couple days ago I got grilled in the OSU thread for saying he would be R12. I hope he picks it up down the home stretch and can beat some of the top 8 guys at the weight.

Most of us can tell what NC caliber wrestling looks like for a HWT and Gremmel's performances lately ain't it. Zabriskie was giving up 40-50 lbs to most guys and I never had this feeling with him.

Agree completely. Definitely needs to take it up a notch to get through the blood round.

5. We need to find a better option at 65. That is all I need to say here.

I am wondering if there is a stronger option behind Carr that we have at 157. I saw it pretty often when I was in HS where we would wrestle a guy up to provide more favorable matchups when dual implications were on the line. How big is that jump from 157 to 165? Could Carr be serviceable there? I also looked at what we have behind him. It looks like we only have one other wrestler behind Carr at 157, Andrew Huddleston (freshman, no bio).

I wonder if it would ever be advantageous to go Degen 149, Robinson 157, Carr 165 in a duel if the matchups are right. Does stuff like that happen at this level?

Also, 5 165 pounders to 2 157 pounders rostered... Who does Carr workout with? Who pushes him in the room?

Our 2 options at 165 are better than the backup at 157. For this year, it makes no sense to bump Carr up to 165 when he has a much better chance at a title at 157. Next year it might make sense to bump Cam to 157 and Carr to 165 (if Degen comes back for year 6), but this year Judge is our best bet at 165.

As for who Carr works out with, pretty sure it is Metcalf a lot of the time. But I'd guess he would drill with Degen, Robinson, Stotts, Judge, Julien, Colbray, Jasmit (the CRTC guy), etc.

I heard Gannon is the only one that can handle him.

I wouldn't be surprised if that is the case. David is a special talent. I'd like to see a battle between him and Yonger from the neutral position, but Carr would beat Yonger on the mat.

I was joking but I imagine some of the fireworks that would happen watching David and The Cuban try to take eachother down....

I completely agree when it comes to Conference Championships and NCAAs, but I guess I was asking about duals, where we believe the other team is weak at 157, and that Robinson has a better chance against their guy at 157 than Judge has against their guy at 165.

I agree it’s fun to talk about and consider. Dresser seems like a beat-the-guy-in-front-of-you kind of guy to me and isn’t likely to monkey with weights. Could be wrong though. Maybe he did this at VT.

This isn’t a bad option but we got stomped by Missouri so it wasn’t going to happen there and Oklahoma state has a horse at 165 so that wouldn’t have been a good move either. Wittlake - Carr would’ve been a fan treat though.

I never thought Zabriskie looked liked a National champ until his hand was raised. Ever match seemed like a coin toss and he was in many overtime matches.

I understand what you're saying. Let me try to put it another way - I would have been surprised if Zabriskie ended up outside of the top 5. At this point I will be surprised if GG is in the top 8.
