I think this game is the first time we will truly see if this is the strength of our team. Will Tribune start? Sam Richardson play? And as good as cotton moya is he has yet to get an interception which is unacceptable as a free safety in 16 games. Do u guys think we have improved enough to hold up on Saturday?

We don't get interceptions because we still aren't great at running bump and run. Our safties are taught to stay back and not let anyone behind them, which is the proper way to coach them, BUT you won't get many picks that way. Once our corners can be trusted on an island we will see our safeties hawking more balls. I think Wiltz and Peavy have been awesome. Time for Tribune to start stepping up, I know he has been hurt, but he is a stud and needs to start making big plays.

I honestly don't see any way we hold them under 45 points. Our bend but don't break defense just isn't good enough at the don't break part and I think it will get exploited against TTU for the first time of many the remainder of the way. We give receivers too much space, up to 15 yards, and TTUs receivers are fast enough to get past us playing without the bump and run coverage scheme.

Honestly, I think TT is going to come out and attempt to ram the ball right down our throat...THEN they will open up the passing game. Wally probably will be fully prepared for that, so I'm hopeful we can counter a strong rushing attack.

Tribune is overrated. Makes some great plays only to get burned on the next. Peavy has been a nice surprise.

I do agree with you i think he stim hasnt proven himself yet and felt like this was the year he needed to do it and its still early so we will see.i do like Peavy he competes hard. Where is Sam Richardson?

I think Peavy, Wiltz, and Tribune can all cover well. I think it was tough to judge any of our DBS the last couple years with our anemic pass rush.

I think we will see a decent pass rush which help the db's....TT has shown that a good pass rush can get to the QB

Texas Tech is #3 in the nation in sacks allowed with 1 sack allowed every 5 games.

Not sure what the OP was thinking, but I've watched about 2 games worth of TTU this year (most of the BU game and parts of several others). A big reason TTU doesn't have many sacks and looks good in the stats column is because of Mahome's scrambling. I think ISU's dline is comparable in ability to BU's D line and they got into the backfield about 6 or 7 times and disrupted plays but Mahome was able to break contain and scramble and he made some really nice throws down field while on the run too.

The question is if ISU's pass rush can get pressure up the middle and keep contain on the outside and not let Mahome scramble. I think that's going to be hard with our 3 man front and I'm not sure we'll have a lot of success, but I guess we'll see.

Ends get up field and Tucker eats their center up and I see good things happening with Jones, Northrup, and Harvey coming on speed blitzes. Jones is terrifying coming off the edge at full speed.

Tribune was suspended not hurt. Or did I miss an injury to him? Richardson has been hurt. Wiltz has been inconsistent IMO. He gave up the go ahead TD against iowa and looked silly doing it. H e got beat more than a few times against Toledo and KU but looked better against KU. Peavey is a stud. We need Floyd healthy. Cotton has been great in run support but gets abused in the passing game Defenses stay away from Cotton-Moya as well as what you said about the safeties.

I agree. they will hang 60 on us like they did last year...oh wait...they only scored 34 points against that horrible defense last year. Ya, I would expect them to hang 45 + this year because our defense has gotten worse.

Tribune was nursing injuries most of last year if I remember correctly. As far as the disciplinary stuff goes I can't comment other than he missed 1 of 4 games. Sure he got beat last year, but it hasn't been the case this year. I wonder if our backs are taught to face guard instead of turn for the ball, because they normally don't look back for it on the sidelines. The TD against Iowa with Wiltz wasn't pretty but the throw was perfect. That's how it goes for corners sometimes. I agree that Peavy has looked probably the best out there. Need to find ways to get Coton-Moya more involved with the pass game.

Very rarely do we just send three and the 3-4 has not been very kind to TT the last couple of years. WVs 3-4 has held TT below 40 PPG the last couple of years which is what you need to do to beat them. Hold them to 35 or fewer.

Lets just say if we're kicking FGs on 4th and short inside our own 25, it won't matter what our secondary is doing -- we need to put up 40+ to even have a chance. And with Rhoads' lets-try-and-keep-it-close attitude, our defense could be in a for a loooong afternoon.

WV (much like us) doesn't run a 3-4 its a nickel/3-4 hybrid that ends up being a 3-3-5, thats not really an issue except for the fact that they have run that same defense since the Rich Rod days so they have recruited guys to specifically play that defense, its part of their system. We are running it out of necessity. There has been a lot of talk about that this week and its not really a good comparison, our "3-4" isn't like theirs.

Texas Tech is about the one team our offense could score on consistently the last two years (31 & 35 points). Doing that again will go a long way in keeping TT around 30-35 points.
