I guess I don't see it, last year they had 2 decent wins, tOSU and Michigan but got nearly all their hype by losing to good teams. IMO they were barely a tourney quality team last year, losing the only NBA talent they won't help. I'm not calling for them to be bad but based on the last couple years, I think they'll spend a lot of time on the bubble. Their biggest question mark will be finding a PG and at least one guy who can create his own shot. I predict Marble will be much tougher to replace than people think and they'll be an NIT team. The good news for them, the b1G lost a ton of talent last year. Mich St, Michigan and tOSU have tons of production to replace.
You mean how much better was it to have Kane last year rather than a guy redshirting?
Well obviously yeah but we didn't pass on him because of Kane, I mean unless we had a heads up on Kane's interest Edwards visited like two months before Kane did
Yes, the staff was likely dumbfounded that a good 5th year transfer would become available. I bet we blocked Kane's first few calls even.
If ISU knew Kane was going to be an option why even bring Edwards on campus knowing they were going to hold out for Kane regardless?
I don't think there is a connection to Kane and Edwards like we knew he was coming to Ames in April. This was a month after Edwards visited and we passed on him

I agree. The Hawks should be NCAA Tournament good (Round of 32, more likely Round of 64), but they are not a Top 25 team by any stretch like they are ranked in the preseason Coaches Poll.
The Hawks will be a tough out in Iowa City, though. I could see us losing to them in Iowa City and then having a much better season, very similar to 2012-13 when they beat us in Iowa City and we went on to make it to the Round of 32, while the Hawks got thoroughly humiliated in the NIT by Baylor.
Correct. That fact, that you passed on Edwards or so it's been said here, will make the ISU games even more interesting.

Thought you might have some insight on what happened from your buddies.What's to explain? I wasn't at the scrimmage. And BTW, I posted this before it came up here in this thread.
And yes, we expect K-State to be improved and challenge for the league title. Of course, we thought that about football as well.
The team lost Marble, their only big time scorer. There is nobody coming in to replace him and nobody on their squad who seems to be able to step up. People say the same thing about ISU every year, but Fred brings in new talent to replace what was lost. Iowa wasn't even one of the 64 best teams last year. My guess is NIT again.
I think we lose to Iowa but have a better season as well. McKay not playing concerns me with Iowa's size. I reserve the right to change my prediction once I see these teams play at least one second of basketball.
Our small lineup will be fun to watch but it could be interesting on the defensive end. Much like we've been used to.

They're probably not better/more talented, from what I've seen, though I'm not as intimately familiar with the depths of their roster and recruiting as I am with ours.
They lost (probably) their best player, or, at least, their best scorer.
They've some options after that, decent size, and probably better D than O. The Big Ten lost A LOT (all conferences always do), but a down conference (unlike an up one in the B12 this year) might help them, too.
Probably their best argument is such a run of close loses, either due to "bad luck" or "mental weakness" isn't likely to happen again. Just like a ton of comebacks and close wins isn't likely to happen for us again at such a high rate. Assuming they're just average in those games and they're easily in the tournament, even without Marble or much progression from the remainder of the roster.
I would slot them as an ORV team, but not quite ranked, at least from what I've seen.
For the record, I'd guess ISU in the teens. Trying not to be too much a homer here.
I feel so dirty but I would love to see Nebraska upset the B1G basketball hierarchy.
