This is true. Of the group graduating, Blythe and Meyer were really the only two with a ton of hype coming in. And even then, it wasn't huge until we had a surprising '04 and Blythe was a machine that season...keep in mind there wasn't much hype at all going into that season having finished 2-10 the prior year.

I understand what Trav is saying though, especially in respect to those two guys. So much hype on them and the last couple years - didn't do nearly what was expected. I really wish that wasn't the case. All these losses from '06 and '07 would have been at least a little easier to stomach if what many felt were our two best players - played like it all four years.

I also agree about the overhype, but I also think the big letdown of the 2006 season was the OLine. They couldn't create holes big enough to let the football through let alone the guy carrying the ball and couldn't give Meyer 3 seconds of pass protection. It would be hard to enough to live up to last years hype if the OL performed optimally. Add in the fact that Meyer is worrying about his back constantly because the D knows we can't run so they expect the pass and we had trouble keeping 3 rushing lineman away let alone a blitzer. Vince Young probably wouldn't be in the NFL right now if he had to rely on the line play we had last year. Then Meyer carries that mentality into this year by not checking down receivers and has only got away from that the last 3 games.

Meyer and Blythe were way overhyped, but it wasn't the play and/or effort of them alone that caused them to not live up to the hype IMHO.
