Why is it IMPOSSIBLE to find any information about this game? There are countless articles about the series renewal in 1977 and Earl's ill-fated "BEAT IOWA" jerseys, but when it comes to the epic 31-0 smack down in front of their own fans- nothing. Who remembers this game? Was anyone there? Give me all the details.

I was there. It was glorious. Unfortunately it was a long time ago. I don't remember many details.

It was a nice day. I got to hug a LOT of cute girl ISU fans afterwards.

After the game one Hawk fan hollered at me, "Cy is a turkey!" I said, "Hey, that rhymes!" (This was back when turkey was a common/popular putdown. And it was common for ISU fans to say, "Herky is a turkey.")

I was there, too. The only thing I recall -- but I remember it vividly -- is Cyclone freshman DL Chris Boskey wreaking hell all over the field.

Pretty accurate, per the "Police Beat" on page 2. http://dailyiowan.lib.uiowa.edu/DI/1978/di1978-09-25.pdf
A police dispatcher said she received a call Saturday on the 911 emergency line at 3:27 a.m. A man said, "**** the Hawks," and hung up. The dispatcher kept the line open and the man who had made such an accurate prediction of that afternoon's game was later given a stern warning by a police officer about misuse of the telephone.

LOL. Well played, Daily Iowan, well played.

If that guy called Cy a "jive turkey" then it would've been your duty to throw the first punch

Thank you all for the replies. Checked out the rest of their schedule from that season- holy crap:

I’d love for Iowa football to return to that level of incompetence.

Careful...might be the first time Hawkdom has seen any evidence of Iowa not being incredible and having to acknowledge it.

The hoks refused to do the series as home and home and Hayden Fry made it a point to beat ISU so people could think they were seeing greatness.

They tend to forget they were worse than our lowest point for about twenty years. They just need a repeat of the 1973 season, and it will happen again for them, eventually.

I believe they held the record for consecutive losing seasons at one point.
Nevermind, I searched it, they had 19 consecutive seasons of .500 or worse record in the '60s and '70s.

First quarter scoreless-Bruce brings Walter Grant off the bench and on the first play of the second quarter he throws a long TD pass to his JC teammate Greg Smith, and the route is on.
